Mike was a devoted husband, father and brother. He was a retired self-employed plumber and had worked for Sumners, Inc. for several years. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. Some of his hobbies included building playhouses, vacationing in Mexico, and spending time at the lake house. Mike served in the reserves with the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Wanda Hunt of Lufkin; son, Justin Hunt of Lufkin; daughter, Michele Hunt of Houston; brother, Jerald Hunt of Lufkin; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Jack Smith of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; and his son, John-Michael Eason Hunt.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Mike's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 212 Gene Samford Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
Pallbearers will be Ray Loving, Marvin Page, Jack Smith, Zayne Anthony, Quentin Walker and Rodger Martin.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Pickens, Zackry Pryor, Peter Zapata, Johnnie Dunn, Joe Dunn, Albert Hutson, Jimmy Lawrence, Pete Sumners, Michael Wallace, Larry Sumners, Leonard Hunt and Tinker Larabee.
Services for Mike will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2010 in the Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel, with Leymoin Wiggins and Lanny Parrish officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielders Cemetery.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Oakley-Metcalf Funeral Home.
