Mr. Jones was born June 4, 1928. He passed away Sunday, February 1, 2015 in a local nursing facility.
Born and raised in Wells, Texas to Chester and Hattie (Bailey) Jones, he was the oldest of the five siblings. He married Dora Harris before he joined the United States Army in 1947, and they raised four children. While in the Army, he went to Medic School. He graduated but decided he didn’t like it and changed to culinary, where he proudly served for four (4) years. He retired from Texas Foundry with 40 plus years and very fond memories. He had a passion for fishing, dancing and gardening. He never missed a Saturday night at the VFW if possible. He and his second wife, Yvonne, loved to travel and often took trips to Branson, Missouri and to the lake house in Livingston, where they enjoyed life and fished, gardened, and cooked.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Gaylene Jones of Huntington and Darrell and Dee Dee Jones of Central; son, Randy Jones of Central; brother, Donald Jones of Central; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby Mac and Sandy Jones of Houston; sisters, Jeanette Trevathan of Onalaska and Reba Fae Redd of Wells; stepdaughter, Robbie Carson of Lone Oak; stepson, Charles Robertson of Hammond, Louisiana; 16 grandchildren; 35 plus great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Dora Harris Jones; second wife, Yvonne Jones; and daughter, Jo Ann Jones Fowler.
Pallbearers will be Michael Jones, Brady Wayne Hooker, Eli Redd, Brandon Scarborough, Joey Jones, and Roger McClendon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Jones’ memory may be made to the VFW, 1800 Ford Chapel Road, Lufkin, TX 75901.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
