Funeral service for Betty Laura Balch, 79, of Garland, TX, will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Elwyn Marcus Gipson Chapel at Garden of Memories Memorial Park, with Jerry Burgess officiating and interment following at Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
Ms. Balch was born October 16, 1943 in Lufkin, Texas, daughter to the late Doris (Hanna) and Ernest Balch. She passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at her residence.
Betty graduated from Lufkin High School in 1961. She played the flute and was a twirler for the Lufkin High School Band 1959 – 1961. She graduated from Abilene Christian College in the year 1965, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. In 1973, she obtained a Master's Degree of Education from East Texas State University. Upon graduation she moved to the Dallas, Texas area, and was a school teacher in the Richardson and Garland school districts for many years. Betty was a Christian woman who put her faith in God first and foremost in her life. Betty was a member for many years of the Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Dallas. Betty was a very thoughtful and caring person. She would always send cards to friends and family for special occasions, and would make the holidays special for her family by bringing “special treats” for the family to enjoy.
Survivors include nieces, Donna Balch Sardina and GeorgEllen and husband, James Landers; great-nephew, Cody Evans; great-niece, Josephine Sardina; great-great-nephew, Joey Behmke; cousin, Linda and husband, Jerry Burgess; special friends, David and Mary Jo Hahn; and many other cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ernest Don Balch and William David Balch; sister-in-law, Georgia Davis Balch; and nephew, Sal Sardina.
