Vernell Young

Celebration of Life services for Vernell Young, 88, of Lubbock will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2015 in the Abbey Chapel of Resthaven Funeral Home, with Rev. Don Kinder officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2015 at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Vernell passed away Saturday, February 07, 2015, in Covenant Hospital in Lubbock.

She was born on September 3, 1926 in Idalou, Texas. She married the love of her life, Doryal Young, July 26, 1945 in Lubbock. She was employed by Plains Cotton Cooperative Association for more than 30 years before her retirement. She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doryal Young; brothers, Glenn Eubank and wife, Mary; Perry Eubank and wife Charline; and O.E. Eubank; sisters, Ila Cartwright and husband James; Beulah Vandiver, and husband Clarence; Geneva Burford and husband Parker; and Zelda Holt and husband Leroy.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sharon Prather and husband, Laurin of Lubbock and Nancy Gummelt of Lubbock; grandchildren, Justin Prather and wife Holly, and Elise and husband Dr. Kyle White; and great grandchildren, Jackson and Presley Prather and Kate and Emily White.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Carillon House for their compassionate care of our loved one while she was a resident there.
