Celebration of life services for Paula Kay Copeland, 65, of Lubbock will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel with Rev. Meryle Fulmer and Rev. John Ballard officiating. The Copeland family will be accepting friends at 12:30. Paula passed from this life Friday, July 2, 2010. Paula was the oldest of a large family of seven children, six sisters and one brother. After the death of her parents, she became the self-appointed matriarch of the family and ensured that the family unit and bond remained strong and unbroken. When she developed cancer eight years ago, Paula took responsibility for herself and plunged headon into treatments that were very devastating on the body and might have left other people defeated. But Paula was strong and tough, of pioneer Texas Plains stock, and her determination and stalwart enabled her to cross numerous hurdles in battling the disease. Paula is admired and will be remembered for her depth of strength and courage that projected on to her family and friends, and helped them to be stronger in the face of her illness. “When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure”. Those left to treasure the memory are her loving husband, Lynn, sons; Lance and David Copeland, all of Lubbock, sisters; Pam Hlavaty of Lubbock, Pris Johnson of Dallas, Penny Tarver of Lubbock, Poni Crocker of Dallas, grandsons; Chad Copeland of New York, NY and Tyler Copeland of Charlotte, NC, nieces and nephews; Michael Johnson, Shannon Martin and Wesley Martin all of Dallas, Brooke Hlavaty of Lubbock, Paige Tarver and Payne Tarver both of Lubbock and Laney Crocker of Berkeley, CA.. She was preceded in death by her parents; Paul, Sr. and Tommye Walter, brother, Paul Walter, Jr and a sister, Pat Martin. The family suggests memorials be made to the Joe Arrington Cancer Center 4101 22nd Place, Lubbock, Texas 79410. Arrangements under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Lubbock, TX.
