On her twenty second birthday, October 21, 1950 she married Demus L. “Buck” Buckner in Ozark, Arkansas. They were married for 64 plus years. Loretha and her young family lived in Arkansas, Gladewater, El Paso, and Abilene before settling in Lubbock in 1967 following her husband’s career with the Texas Department of Public Service.
She loved to cook, make quilts, crochet and knit, make craft items, read, spend time with her family and drink coffee. Loretha was a wonderful cook and used her skill for years as an L.I.S.D. food service manager.
She was a faithful worshiper at Trinity Church in Lubbock and enjoyed the fellowship of her many friends in the local T.O.P.S. club. Loretha will be remembered as a selfless altruistic wife, mother, grandmother and friend who always had a smile and a quiet strength. Her sweet and loving disposition and beautiful smile will be missed by her family and friends.
Loretha is preceded in death by her husband Demus Buckner; parents Simon Jesse and Mamie Mae Blan Kuykendall; two beloved daughters Nina Ruth Brown and Susan Elaine Mathes, son-in-law Ronnie Brown, and two sisters Ola Mae Kinney and Jaunita Shott.
She is survived by sisters Betty Wyers (husband Clifford) and Olene Allred (husband Harrison) both of Ozark, Arkansas; son Lindsey Buckner (wife Laura) of Midland; son-in-law Stan Mathes (wife Susie) of Lubbock; grandchildren Dominique DeMille (wife Olivia) of Springdale, Arkansas; Jennifer Boller (husband Les) of Lubbock; Joshua Mathes (wife Deanndra) of Lubbock; Megan Enzweiler (husband Tom) of Seattle, Washington; John Buckner of Lubbock; and five great-grandchildren.
