He was born to James Cleston Patterson and Balazia Inez (Greene) Patterson in Chicago, Illinois, on January 3, 1942.
The Family moved to Texas as quickly as they could after the war. He was raised in Garland, TX, and graduated from Garland High School in 1960.
While at Texas Tech, Ken met the love of his life, Elyn Breeding, on a blind date his freshman year. The two would marry in Dallas in December, 1963. He graduated Texas Technological College in 1964 with a degree in Engineering Physics. He worked at Exxon Chemicals for 33 years. An Eagle Scout, Ken continued to volunteer with Boy Scout Troop 406 in Lubbock, including serving as flag coordinator. He was a high school football referee for 44 years and an active Rotarian, serving as district governor for 2013-2014.
Ken is fondly remembered for his smile, love of the Lord, hard work, enjoyment of coffee, work in his yard & garden, love of volunteering, interest in history, enjoyment of sports (especially football), devotion to his wife, and love for his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Gene Henry Fuhrman. He leaves behind his wife of over 58 years, Elyn Breeding Patterson, daughter Kaylynn Patterson Fuhrman, daughter Kendra Patterson, son Kevin Wayne Patterson and wife Kelly R. Patterson, son Keith Walker Patterson and wife Devyn D. Patterson. He is also survived by four grandchildren whom he cherished: Rhianne Brown, Conner G. Fuhrman, Kaden H. Patterson, and Kyle W. Patterson.
