John graduated from Roosevelt High School and joined the Navy in 1950. He served 4 years in the VC-7 Squadron while stationed in San Diego, CA; Norfolk VA, and Port Lyautey Morocco.
John married Linda Moore in Hale Center, Texas on April 20th 1958, they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. He was a self-employed painter and a member of the Elks Lodge for many years. He was in a Bowling league for many years before switching to golf; and he loved to hunt, play cards, watch the horses run in Ruidoso, watch Texas Tech Baseball, football and basketball, and was an excellent cook.
John was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers and sister -in-laws, Jimmy and Sue Balios and Tony and Margaret Balios; and one brother -in-law Mac Moore. He is survived by his wife, Linda Balios of Plainview TX; daughter Katrina Stotts of Lubbock TX, son Chris Balios of Post TX, daughter Alicia Browning and husband John of Plainview, TX; daughter -in-law Leigh Balios of Lubbock; six grandchildren: Tiffany Rubio (Tony) of Denver Colorado, Ryan Balios , Cory Balios, Shawna Salas (Lee) all of Lubbock, Jace Browning, & Brooks Browning both of Plainview, TX; three great-grandchildren: Braxton, Trey, & Zoe of Denver Colorado; brother-in-laws Keith and Laine Moore; sister-in-law Sally Moore; and several nieces and nephews.
The family invites you to join them as they honor and celebrate his life with a Celebration of Life Service on Monday, December 11, 2023 at 2pm in Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel. Interment will follow in Resthaven Funeral Home Memorial Park.
