Jerry Meers

Jerry was born April 6th, 1944 in Knox City, Texas. He was raised in Munday, Texas and graduated from Munday High School. He married his beloved wife, Karen Trantham, on June 14th, 1963 in Wichita Falls. Jerry graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in 1971. He was a passionate teacher and football coach and touched many students’ lives. Jerry was an entrepreneur and his love for cotton and agriculture led to the creation of his companies Meers Pest Solutions, Meers Cotton Service, Great Plains Chemicals and Fumigation Services, and Meers Express. Due to Jerry's commitment to excellence he was called to serve on the following boards: American Museum of Agriculture; South Plains Food Bank; Breedlove Foods, Texas Pest Control Association; Lubbock County Agriculture; and Gilbert Herrera Evangelistic Association. He served on the Governor appointed Texas Community Nutritional Task Force. Jerry recently had the honor to be appointed to the Texas Department of Agriculture advisory board. Jerry was a dedicated Christian with a servant's heart. He was a faithful Sunday School teacher all of his adult life.

Jerry was an amazing husband, son, brother, dad, granddad, mentor and friend and he will be missed dearly by those left to cherish his memory. His legacy will continue with his wife of 49 years, Karen Meers; daughter April Meers of CedarPark; daughter Dawndra Sechrist (Calvin) of Lubbock; son Kyle Meers (Kelli) of Lubbock; precious grandchildren Kaylen and Kason Meers, and Brice and Tatum Sechrist all of Lubbock; mother Ruby Meers and brother Boyd Lynn Meers (Christine) of Munday; devoted family friends Iris Easley and Tammie Sheppard; and many loving relatives. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Boyd Meers, and brother, Charles Meers.

Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19th, at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock. In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Jerry's lifetime of serving, donations can be made to the South Plains Food Bank (4612 Locust Ave, Lubbock, 79404), the American Museum of Agriculture (PO Box 505, Lubbock, 79408) or the Gilbert Herrera Evangelistic Association (in c/o First Baptist Church, 2201 Broadway, Lubbock, 79401).
