Janet was the oldest in a family of five military children. The military took the family from California to Guam and to France before the family moved to Fort Scott, Kansas. Janet attended Fort Scott High School, graduating in the class of 1963. She later went on to obtain a Degree in Dietary Nutrition from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. Janet was then commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S Air Force and served a four year term at Kessler AFB in Gulfport, Mississippi leaving as a Captain. She then began her career in Lubbock, working for Highland Hospital as a Nutritionist. She also worked briefly with Texas Tech in Food Service and moved on to Texas Instruments in 1976, where she enjoyed a 20-year long career in a variety of positions from the assembly line to electronics testing to semiconductor manufacturing. She also worked at Operator Service Company and Cingular/AT&T call centers in Customer Service until retirement in 2002. She continued her education with a second degree in Microelectronics from South Plains College.
Janet married Lewis W. Snively in Fort Scott, Kansas in 1968 and had one child, Christopher L. Snively in 1976. Janet was an active member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, Lubbock Democrats, Osher Lifelong Learning through Texas Tech, and also volunteered with a variety of groups such as the South Plains Food Bank Voucher Program, United Methodist Women, Ronald McDonald House and had a passion for reading, her dog and cat family, visiting family and travel along with gardening, and will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity towards others and work towards social justice and equality.
A memorial Service will be scheduled at St. Johns United Methodist at a later date.
The family would also like to thank the Lubbock Community for their love, friendship and support. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis in 2013. She is survived by her son Christopher and wife Uma of Fort Worth, TX and granddaughter Riva.
