A visitation will be held 5 to 6pm Monday November 15th at Resthaven Funeral Home in Lubbock Texas. Celebration of life will be at 10am Tuesday November 16th at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Graveside services will be immediately after at the Resthaven Memorial Park.
James was born October 11, 1939 to Claude and Elsie Cox, the fourth of their five children. He married Lou Ella Edna Borden January 3, 1959 in Wheeler Texas shortly after their graduation from Wheeler High School. They moved to Lubbock Texas where they raised their three children. After 38 years of marriage Lou went home to be with our Lord in 1997. James married Phyllis McIlroy November 21st, 2008 and they enjoyed almost 13 years together.
James worked seven years for Tom’s Tree Place in Lubbock before taking a Federal Civilian Service position at Reece Airbase. James received multiple performance and service awards as well as accommodations during his 29 years at the base. He retired August 27, 1997 as an Engineering Equipment Operator. James was also a lifelong farmer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. James loved big with a kind compassionate servant heart. He enjoyed a good prank and a silly song. He was a husband, daddy, pawpa, Gpaw and friend.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Elsie Cox; his siblings Marvin Cox, Joyce Perkins and Jeraldine Pride; and his first wife Lou Cox.
Survivors include his wife Phyllis Cox, brother Claude Cox Jr. (Junior), son James Glenn Cox Jr. and wife Dedra, daughter Roxanne (Roxie) Benincosa and husband Tom, daughter Christy Torriero and husband Lee and grandchildren; Dale Cox and wife Amanda, Shana Smith and husband Mike, James Glenn Cox III (Trey), Casey Benincosa and wife Amy, Nichole (Nicki) Goseland and husband Josh, Dayson Garner, Layne Cox, Levi Cox, Lynnzee Cox, Jamee Cox, Isaiah Cox, Jessica Bowman, Carrie Self and husband Brandon, Misty Sanders and Justin Sanders. He was also blessed with 18 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Sunset International Bible Institute or Sunset missions funds.
