Howard Duane Crum, age 85, of Lubbock, Texas passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2023. Howard was born in Harrah. Beloved cowboy, beloved husband, beloved dad, beloved Popsie, beloved brother, beloved uncle, and beloved friend to all. Howard’s love for family and friends was unique and far above excellence. He was ever present in everything for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His family was his treasure.
His legacy is immeasurable. To his last day, his wife and many of his family members were gathered around him in his bedroom, laughing, enjoying being together, singing, praying and blessing him. Although he has moved on to the Kingdom with our Lord and Savior, he will be tremendously missed. The legacy he leaves behind is something his family hopes every family has the opportunity to experience. From many movie nights and adventures with his wife, to horseback riding trips with his brother, to rodeos galore with his family, to grandkid’s sporting and other events, to family supper with his youngest granddaughter, to political events with his oldest granddaughter, he looked forward to and thoroughly enjoyed every moment with family. Endlessly dedicated to his children, he was known to work with his son and daughter-in-law at State Fairs, support his daughter’s entrepreneurial ventures, work with his oldest daughter on annual home improvement projects, and always looked forward to NFL football season and Thursday calls from his youngest daughter. Lovingly known as Popsie, he was always thoughtful and caring for each of his grandchildren, known to bless his great grandson with the latest baseball bat, his granddaughter’s cowgirl boots, and everything in between. Howard was always ready and willing to help anyone at the drop of a hat, a true servant of Christ, giving of himself continually and serving as the hands and feet of Jesus.
Throughout his life, Howard served every church he attended to the fullest. He was highly respected as a Deacon, as a Gideon, and active member in his church families.
He is survived by his wife Peggy Wilks-Crum, three children, Howard, Stephanie, and Sheryl, his grandchildren, Shanda and Sharah, and his great-grandchildren Noah, Callie, Adele, and Claire. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Ruth Crum, his brothers Warren and George, his sister Jean, and his oldest daughter, Selena.
Of the many underlined verses in his Bible was this verse: “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast. For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8-10
