Services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 1 at Resthaven Chapel for Helen Sampson with her pastor Keith Wiseman of First Methodist church officiating. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, April 30 at Resthaven. Helen was born July 4, 1926 in Sagerton, TX. She died in Lubbock, TX on April 25, 2013.
In her early years Helen lived and attended schools throughout Northwest and Central Texas, graduating from Sequin High School in 1943. On January 27, 1945, Helen married Robert Sampson, who immediately returned to his duties in the South Pacific with the United States Navy. After a naval career spanning twelve years, they and their two sons, Mark and Tim, moved to Brownfield, TX in 1955.
Helen returned to Texas Tech University in 1965 to complete her education degree. The family moved to Lubbock in 1968, where she began her teaching career, retiring in 1993.
Helen enriched the lives of many people through a lifetime of service to LISD, the Ranching Heritage Center, Covenant Chaplaincy, the Lubbock Lions Club, and the Texas Lions Camp.
Her passion was helping children with learning and physical disabilities. Helen sponsored hundreds of campers to the Texas Lions Camp.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-eight years, Robert Sampson, her sons Mark Sampson and wife Virginia, Tim Sampson and wife Mary Jane, brother Bob Young and wife Mary Jane of Midland, nephews Michael Young and Robert Young, wife Pamela and their children Natalie and Clifford of San Antonio, Helen’s favorite kids.
At Helen’s request, please honor her memory through the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville, TX.
