Red was born January 17, 1930 to George and Ruby Rivers in Stamford, TX.
He was in the John Deere business for more than 50 years. He was an avid bowler and pool player throughout his life. His enjoyment of flying his own small plane led him to discover soaring which quickly became a favorite weekend activity. He was a founding member of Caprock Soaring.
After retiring from John Deere he became active in Fibermax Center for Discovery. He welcomed the chance to share his lifetime love and wealth of knowledge regarding farm life and farm equipment while volunteering there. He also got such pleasure restoring farm equipment and showing visitors around the beautiful museum.
Harvey and his family were long-time members of First United Methodist Church Lubbock.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Patricia and his parents, George and Ruby Rivers as well as four siblings.
He is survived by his son George Rivers and wife Mitzie of Tomball, TX, his daughter Ruth Mills of Lubbock, grandchildren George Rivers of Tomball, Michael Mills and his wife Savanna and their son Lincoln of Lubbock, 1stLt Clark W. Rivers, USMC and fiancée Grace O’Leary of Snead’s Ferry, NC, and Emma Rivers of Austin.
