Gerald passed away on Sunday November 29, 2015 in Lubbock. He was born on May 1, 1939 in Hockley County Texas to the late Forest B. and Alma (Coon) Anderson. Gerald graduated from Plains High School in 1957. He then joined the U.S. Navy where he served aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Intrepid, as an aviation ordnanceman tasked with flight deck operations and the operational readiness of the ship’s nuclear arsenal.
He married Barbara Ann Golden in 1964. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas, Austin in 1966 and graduated from the University of Houston School of Law in 1969 as a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.
Gerald built a successful law practice as a prominent and respected trial attorney litigating many high profile cases during his 46 years as an attorney. He was a charter member of the Lubbock Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. He served several years on the State Bar of Texas Ethics Committee. In addition to being a licensed Texas attorney, Gerald was also licensed to appear before the Supreme Court of the United States of America. One of his greatest passions in the practice of law was the mentoring of other attorneys not only for their own benefit but also to strengthen the integrity of his profession.
He enjoyed aviation, photography, running, hunting and other outdoor sports, UT football, travel, and spoiling his grandchildren.
Gerald is preceded in death by his sister Melva Foister.
Those left to cherish his memory are wife, Barbara; son Andrew and wife Jeny of Lubbock, TX; son Joseph and wife Shanna of Austin, TX; daughter Gina Susino and husband Anthony of Carlsbad, CA; and eight grandchildren: Connor and Brigit Anderson, Nicholas, Samuel and Sophie Anderson, Luke, Nicholas, Andrew Susino and the anticipated birth of his third granddaughter. Survivors also include his brother Burl Anderson and wife Debbie of Mansfield, TX; sister Carol Williams and husband Eddie of San Antonio, TX; Dr. Ernie Anderson and wife Karen of Spring, TX; sister Kathy Gillaspy and husband Bill of Galveston, TX; Aunt Shell Anderson of Lovington, NM; and Aunt Valerie Coon of Seminole, TX and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
