Gary Levi Caffee has entered his eternal rest, passing away at age 83 on August 15, 2023. Gary, born December 15, 1939 in Lubbock, Texas, was the child of Joe Melton Caffee and Nora Lucille Fitzwater Caffee. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1958. His junior year as a Westerner, Gary earned his Eagle Scout Award and his God and Country Award. After high school, Gary attended Texas Tech University and was an active member of Alpha Tao Omega Fraternity. He paused his education to graciously serve his country in the United States Marine Corps in the Second Battalion Honor Platoon 235. Gary then married Judy Su Morton on December 22, 1962, a marriage of 60 years. He graduated with his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 1963. Gary had a 31 year career in Arlington, Texas in Administration and Management of Environmental Health Programs with the Texas Department of Health Region 5. Gary was an elder at First Christian Church in Arlington. Following his retirement and return to Lubbock, he worked as a licensed home inspector. Gary was an active member of Lakeridge United Methodist Church. He served faithfully as an Evangelism staff member, as head of the Communion Committee, and as a Food Voucher Program volunteer. Due to those years of service, Gary was honored in 2018 as a Hunger Hero. In his later years, Gary volunteered at University Medical Center and Joe Arrington Cancer Research and Treatment Center. In his free time, Gary enjoyed drinking classic Coke, watching movies, playing dominoes, and traveling the world with his wife.
He is survived by his wife Judy, his daughters Cheryl Landry, M. D. and husband Joel Landry, M. D. of Lubbock, Texas and Michelle Schnacke and husband Alan Schnacke of Southlake, Texas. Gary, best known as “Grandad”, loved, cherished, and supported his five granddaughters, Lauren Landry of Austin, and Alexis Landry Randall, husband Joseph Randall, of Lubbock, and Allison Schnacke Connors, husband Michael Connors, of Augusta, Georgia, and Megan Schnacke and Avery Schnacke of Southlake.
Visitation for Gary Caffee will be Friday, August 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Resthaven Funeral Home. Gary’s Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 19th at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Lakeridge Methodist Church at 4701 82nd Street, Lubbock, Texas. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Hospice of Lubbock and Legacy at the South Plains. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Lakeridge Methodist Church.
