Douglas Ray McSwane was born on September 11, 1927 in Eldorado, Texas to William (Bill) Zachary McSwane and Dora Belle Trotter McSwane. Doug passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025 in Keller, Texas. He was a servant of his Lord, a wonderful husband, and a loving family man. He was much loved by his family and friends who are taking comfort knowing he is in heaven with Christ and reconnecting with those who have gone before him. Doug was a great man.
Doug attended San Angelo Central High School, and played football on the Bobcat football team. In 1943 the team went undefeated with a 14-0 record and won the state title during a time when there was only one championship crowned in the state. He proudly served his country in the Army, afterwards attending Texas Tech University on a football scholarship. He was an avid Red Raider supporter for all of his life.
He married the love of his life, Geneva E. Stach on March 7, 1952, and they lived in Levelland with their children, Jackie, Jeannie, Doug Jr. and Jan. Doug’s career eventually led him to Blue Cross Blue Shield where he worked in Provider Relations administering Medicare throughout the Texas region. The family lived in Richardson, Texas where Doug taught a Sunday morning adult Bible study for 20 years at Waterview Church of Christ.
Doug is predeceased by his wife, Geneva; his son, Jackie Wiles; brother, Noble McSwane; grandson, Patrick McSwane; and great-granddaughter, Madeline Wiles.
Doug was a much beloved son, brother, cousin, husband, in-law, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He had a way of communicating with people, accepting them as they were, and as such was a respected source of wisdom and guidance for many family members and friends. He was known as a man of God who cared for others. Doug will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughters Jeannie Wiles Rochelle and Jan McSwane (Wilkerson), his son Doug McSwane Jr., and his daughter-in-law, Patricia Wiles.
Services will be held on April 17th at 1:30 pm at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel, 5740 W. 19th Street Lubbock, Texas. Burial is at Levelland Cemetery.
