Charles Lester Russell was born in Angus, Texas on July 29, 1924, to Bura and Safronia Russell. He always had a love for the Lord and took great interest in the Holy Bible. He became a member of the Church of the Living God C.W.F.F. at a young age, where he was a dedicated member. His faith led him to serve many roles in the church such as Church Superintendent, National Superintendent, Deacon and Elder of the Temple No. 92.
On April 22, 1944, he joined the U. S. Navy. During this time, he was stationed at many ports and spent ten and half months on sea duty. He was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class on February 25, 1946. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as his family will attest.
Charles married Estell Blevins on February 9, 1947. This union was blessed with two daughter, who he treasured and six sons, who he took great pride in knowing his name would continue. Estell preceded him in death on May 20, 2006.
Charles worked in construction for a period of time where he was instrumental in building Texas Tech University. In 1950 he went to work for Baldridge Bakery and remained there for 20 years. He spent the last five years of of his career at Sears Roebuck and retired thereafter.
In 1975 after his retirement, Charles pursued his other passions, fishing, gardening and relaxing on the porch with his pets. His favorite pastime was spent listening to discussions of the Bible. He was truly a gentleman and could brighten your day just by saying your name. He will be missed.
