A memorial service for Barbara Ann Conner, 68, of Lubbock, will be held on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at 3 p.m. at First Christian Church with Dr. Michael Passmore and Rev. Stephanie Nash officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Born to Herbert Alonzo Taylor and Annie May Taylor on August 6, 1942, in Chattanooga, TN, Barbara was the second of two children. She lived in Greensboro, NC until moving to Texas with her family. After graduating from The University of Texas in 1964, she came to reside in Lubbock, and in 1968 began her first year of teaching at Coronado High School. She received her Masters from Texas Tech University in 1985. In May, she would have completed her 43rd year teaching English at CHS.
In 1976, she married Jack Conner, and last August they celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary. They were active members of First Christian Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and survived by her husband, her step-daughter, Donna Conner of Clarksville, TN, her step-granddaughter, Brandi Quarles, and four step-great grandsons of Lubbock; one brother and sister-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Herbert Taylor, II, and two nephews Herbert Taylor III and Tony Taylor, all of Memphis, TN.
A Barbara Conner Scholarship Fund is being established and donations may be made through Coronado High School.
