Richard “Joe” Romero, 82, went home to our father January 6, 2020. He was Born, August 7, 1937 in Peckham, Colorado, to Paul Romero and Mary Alice (Castillo) Romero. He graduated from Greeley High School in 1957. He played baseball all through middle school, high school, college and semi-pros teams, including the Cheyenne Merchants and the Greeley Grays. He was named most Valuable baseball player. He was in the Army Reserves and upon his honorable discharge, he taught baseball to little league and high school kids. On February 11, 1967 Richard married Flora Moya, the couple made their home and raised their family in Loveland. He loved the Broncos and watching the Rockies and Nuggets. He worked several years at Monfort Meats then retired from Lexmark (IBM).
He will be missed by his wife of nearly 53 years, Flora; his three children: Robin Romero, Contessa Gallegos and her husband Gilbert Gallegos and Natalie Moran-Romero and her husband, Greg Moran; five grandchildren: Samantha Romero, Jessica Gray, Joshua Romero, Ashlee Romero and Jerimiah Moran-Romero; one great-grandson, Dylan Carl; two sisters: Mary Lou Villa and Helen (Joe) Ochoa; one brother, John (Angie) Romero. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Jane Romero Martinez.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Allnutt Funeral Service in Loveland with Pastor Rodney Foster officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Loveland Burial Park followed by a reception at the Allnutt Reception Center. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
