Diana Jeanne Thraen

Born on Tuesday, February 19, 1957; we imagine there was snow on the ground in her hometown of Omaha, Nebraska. Being born during a cold month is ironic given Diana’s sunny disposition and love for the outdoors - especially during Spring and Summer. During those months, there were many occasions when Diana would pick her daughter, Emily, up from daycare to go on impromptu camping trips to Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains. They had many adventures on those trips - from seeing bears and elk to even sleeping on lawn chairs one night when the park unexpectedly flooded!

Later in life, when Diana wasn’t outside gardening, you could expect to find her crafting, baking, or playing pinochle with friends. Her flower wreaths and homemade ornaments were a sight to behold, and the holidays won’t feel nearly as warm without her signature gumdrop cookies. Thankfully, she has entrusted select family members with all her delicious recipes.

Professionally, Diana would be described as astute, meticulous, and passionate. Early in her career, she worked in medical records at the VA Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, but she pushed herself to even greater heights. She returned to school to receive her B.A. and was quickly promoted to Medical Records Manager. Diana was instrumental in assisting hospitals across the southeast in switching to electronic medical records and championing HIPPA and other privacy policies within her role.

Spiritually, Diana was a child of God. That is not to say that she did not face trials and tribulations, but her strong faith helped her overcome and persevere. Those who knew Diana will miss her and think of her often.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James L and Mary "Ruth" Ennenga, and her beloved sister, Nettie Leonetti.

She is survived by her sisters Mary Richling (Larry), Wilma Ennenga, and Susan Haskell (Randy); nephews Bradley Richling (Zara) and Paul Haskell (Kelly); nieces Erin Bowler (Blake) and Sarah Peterson (Jordan); daughter Emily Dekkers (David); grandson Logan Dekkers; as well as large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends will be received at Citipointe Church on Sunday, November 17th, at 3pm. An intimate family Celebration of Life will be held in the summer when the flowers are blooming in Lennox, South Dakota.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the House of Neighborly Services.
