Bill graduated from Flaget High School in 1961 and went on to obtain his degree from Bellarmine University in 1975.
Bill served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1966 on the U.S.S. Coral Sea (VF151) during the Vietnam War and then retired from the accounting department of LG&E after 32 years.
He was a member, and usher, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church for 50 years. He was a sports enthusiast and t-ball coach for his boys. After retirement he enjoyed cruising the Caribbean with his wife Rose. He will be so greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rosemarie Ragle Mattingly; sons, David (Linda, recently passed), Steven (Rebecca), Scott (Lisa), Patrick (Abigail), and Michael (Heather); grandchildren, Seth, Madison, Nicholas, Brad, Lukas, Jessica, Thomas, Rachel, Aislynn, Maxine, and Maelie; great-grandson, Anderson; siblings, Terry (Sara) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Joyce Askin (Ron), and Darlene Caldwell (Bill, recently passed); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.
Preceding Bill in passing was his sister, Brenda VanHouten.
Mass will be held on Monday March 21st, at 10:30 AM at St. Gabriel the Archangel, 5505 Bardstown Rd. Mass will also be livestreamed on the St. Gabriel Facebook page and YouTube channel. Bill will be laid to rest following mass in Resthaven Memorial Park with military honors in the pavilion. Visitation will take place on Sunday March 20th, from 2PM until 6 PM at the Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home, 4400 Bardstown Rd.
In lieu of customary expressions please make a donation in Bill’s name to St. Gabriel Catholic Church or The Mass of the Air.
