He was born on April 28, 1941 in Louisville, Kentucky to parents, James Henry & Mary Monzelle (Thompson) Carnforth. Richard was baptized at the Immanuel Baptist Church on Oak St., where he was a member. With pride and honor, Richard served his nation in the United States Navy in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s during what would become known as the Cold War, serving abroad in places such as Hawaii, New Orleans, Louisiana and Okinawa, Japan. He was a retired businessperson where he co-owned Poplar Level Auto Parts for 40 years. Richard had a passion for stock car racing, boating and fishing. He also loved U.K. Basketball, cheering for his Kentucky Wildcats. He was also an Honorable Kentucky Colonel.
His parents, James Henry & Mary Monzelle (Thompson) Carnforth; and one niece Kathleen Ellis, precede Richard in death.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Tresa Lynn Carnforth; one daughter, Tina Lynn (Sara) Carnforth; two – grandchildren, Elizabeth Sullivan Holly Carnforth; brother, Jim (Phillis) Carnforth; sister, Joan (Lynn) Mattingly; nieces & newphews, Greg Carnforth, Chris Carnforth, Sean Mattingly, Brian Mattingly and Jamie Lynn Carnforth; plus a host of numerous relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in the Dignity Chapel of the Evergreen Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. and then again on Monday, August 2, from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 2:00 p.m. also at the Evergreen Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery & Garden Mausoleums.
