Curry, Patricia “Carol” Hulsey Rhodes, 78, of Louisville, KY, went on to be with our Lord on Thursday, November 9, 2017. She was born May 22, 2939 in Dallas, TX to the late Lt. Colonel Clifton Hulsey (US Army) and Marjory Faye (Oswald).
Carol married her first love, David Rhodes in 1957, the father of her five children. When David left the Air Force, they moved to David’s home town of Belchertown, MA, where they raised their family and Carol worked the University of Massachusetts, Amherst until her retirement in 1990. After David’s passing in 1992, Carol helped in raising her grandson in VA and then in NH.
A move to Louisville, KY in 2007 proved that one can find love a second time and she married her devoted Laurence Curry in 2009. He was by her side until the end. Known to her friends and loved ones as Carol, she loved her church, knitting, reading, cooking, and going on many travel adventures.
Carol leaves behind a large extended family along with her husband, Laurence, her children; Michael Rhodes and wife Laurie Waite of MA, Sherri Strickland and husband William of VT, Patricia Burkhardt and husband Lawrence of SC, Amy Rhodes, and Kristy Benefield Gosselin and husband Craig of KY, step children; Laura Curry (Michael Coffey), Paul Curry, Debbie Sokoloff, Susan David, all from KY, Dan and wife Dr. Wendy David of AR and Diane Modis (Kurt) of PA, Grandchildren; Sarah Rhodes, MA, Casey Benefield and wife Allyssa, daughter Harper of NH. Step-grandchildren; Harrison David of AR, Karl Modis of NY, Seth Sokoloff of IN, Larry Burkhardt, Jr. and wife Cindy, children, Alex, Cole, Meredith, and Valerie, and Charles Burkhardt and wife Michelle Santiago-Burkhardt, children Charlie, Nathen, Raelyn and step children; Griffin and Reegan Santiago-Jett, all of MD, Kimberly Blair and husband, Josh, children Brody and Elizabeth of NC. Toby, Shawn, Tasha and Josh Coffey, and Oden Curry, all of KY.
A service to celebrate Carol’s life will be held at 4th Avenue Methodist Church, 318 St. Catherine Str., on Wednesday, November 15th, 2017, at 2pm with visitation at the church from 10am until the celebration of her life.
Carol’s family would like to thank the hardworking, dedicated staff in the Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital ICU department.
