Michael A. Bernard, Sr., 73, was born on May 5th, 1950 in Louisville, KY and passed away peacefully with family at his side on January 10th, 2024. He was the second of seven children born to the union of John Henry and Fedora Constance Bernard. They preceded him in death as well as his sister, Bonita.
Michael was a graduate of Louisville Male High School. He joined the United States Army during the height of the Vietnam War and served with active and civilian service with the Department of Defense for a total of twelve years. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Finance from the University of Louisville. Michael served as a postal service supervisor and manager until he started his own private businesses in which he worked for the next 30 years as an insurance broker until retirement.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 47 years, Kim; his daughter, Dr. Michelle Carman (Anthony), his sons John and Michael Jr. (Kayla), 6 grandchildren, Amari, Mia, Ava, Blake, John and Quincy, whom he adored; his sisters Barbara (Bill), Linda (Bill), Karen (Ricky), and brothers Keith and John. He was loved and loved in return by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.
A funeral service for Michael will be held on Tuesday January 16th, at 1:00pm at Arch L Heady Funeral Home with burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 11 until service time at the funeral home.
