Mr. Bohannon, the son of the late Abraham and Maude Risner Bohannon, was born on January 22, 1909, in Breathitt County, Kentucky. His father, a coal miner, died of black lung in 1923, Mr. Bohannon and his siblings found themselves on the doorstep of Presbyterian Children's Home in Anchorage, now Bellewood Presbyterian Homes for Children. Shortly after high school, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and was assigned to duty in eastern Kentucky. He was soon serving as the Mess Sergeant for the camp. His duties frequently took him to Jackson, Kentucky, to purchase food and supplies. It was on one of those visits he met his future wife, Mary Elizabeth. On February 22, 1935 they were married in Jackson, KY. In 1948 the Bohannon's moved back to Louisville and Logan came to work at Bellewood, as the Farm Manager. In the 32 years that followed, Mr. Bohannon or as he's more commonly known, "Mr. Bo", served as the Director of Activities, Director of Campus Life and as the Executive Director. He was also very proud of his many years of worship and service at Anchorage Presbyterian Church. It has been said that Logan Bohannon has been an inspiration to all those who have been lucky enough to meet him. He is a testament to what is possible when you take the time to make a difference in the lives of children.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Elizabeth Bohannon; his parents; sister, Amy Jenkins, and brothers, Jesse and Burns.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Carolyn Bohannon and Barbara Horner, three grandchildren, Mac Dean, Holly Horner and Vicki Gardner and twin great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Logan will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday , November 8, 2010 at Anchorage Presbyterian Church, 11403 Park Road. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A private family burial will follow at Bach Cemetery in Quicksand, KY.
Arrangements under the direction of Arch L. Heady & Son Funeral Home at Westport Road. In lieu of customary expressions of sympathy the family has requested contibutions to the Bellewood Presbyterian Homes for Children.
