Julia Carter Hillen

Known by most everyone as Julie, she was born on May 20, 1942, as the second daughter to William Wesley (Billy) & Irene Fuson Carter in Old Hickory, Tennessee, and only sister to Kathryn Ann (Kathy). Having moved to Louisville as a child, her life was framed around family and church as members of Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church.

Julie and husband, Billy, married June 1963 and started their family a short couple of years later settling on the south side of Louisville. They welcomed three daughters, Kathy, Carol and Julie Kay. As the girls got older, Julie was able to bring all of her passions together by becoming a music teacher at the Bethlehem Baptist Church Kindergarten program which began a lifelong career invested in early childhood education. To so many she is and will always be ‘Miss Julie’.

In addition to her love of working with children, Julie spent her life singing and pursuing higher education. She was an active member at Hurstbourne Baptist Church for many years, serving Him through singing, teaching, learning and mission trips. She has been involved with multiple singing groups and choirs sharing her rich alto harmonies. She was able to finish her undergraduate degree at Georgetown College, graduating alongside her youngest daughter, and pursued her Masters at Jefferson Technical College where she spent a number of years on staff as an instructor in their Early Childhood Education department.

Of all of her accomplishments in life, her greatest love has been of Jesus Christ, her Savior. She has introduced countless people to His love and saving grace through mission trips, prayer and simple conversation. She taught us all to ‘take a deep breath, say a prayer and remember Whose you are.’ In our sadness we are also rejoicing that she has met her Savior face to face and has taken her place at His banquet table.

Julie is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Earl W. Hillen, Jr. (Billy), three daughters Kathy Wrigley, Carol Dunn (Scott) and Julie Kay Bishop (Jon); three grandchildren Brett Bartholomai, Weslyn Bartholomai and Kim Wrigley; older sister, Kathy Jones, and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 9am-12pm at Arch L. Heady & Son Westport Village 7410 Westport Rd. with a funeral service beginning at 12pm on Friday January 21, 2022.
