Jane Carolyn (Irvin) Horne, daughter of the late Chester and Dorothy (Franke) Irvin, was born November 18,1945, in Oakland, California and died at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, December 9, 2021. She was 76 years old.
Jane was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She married Raeburn Carlton Horne on July 31,1971 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church in St. Charles, Missouri. They celebrated 50 years of marriage. After high school, Jane attended Georgetown Baptist College in Georgetown, Kentucky, and graduated from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with a Bachelor of Science degree. She later obtained her Master’s degree from the University of Louisville.
Jane taught elementary school for 40 years. She began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Pattonville School District in St. Louis. She was a substitute teacher in Springfield, and Republic, Missouri, and retired from Old Mill Elementary in Bullitt County, Kentucky in 2008. Between 1982 and 1984 Jane and Raeburn started Ridgecrest Baptist church while living in the old Prosser house in Springfield, Missouri. Jane taught Sunday school, played the piano, and was the secretary for the new congregation.
When not teaching, she enjoyed spending her free time oil painting, fishing and gardening. These interests were passed along to her children.
Besides her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her sister Sharon Hutchins, and her brother Robert Irvin.
She is survived by her husband Raeburn Horne, of Louisville, KY, her son Jonathan Horne and his wife Jessica, of Dumfries, Virginia, her daughter Julia Todd and her husband Dr. Adam Todd, her four grandchildren Jeremiah, Morgan, Caitlin and Abigail of Rogersville, Missouri, her brother Dr. Mark Irvin and his wife Rhonda of Paducah, KY, two brothers-in-law, Melvin Horne and his wife Anne, of Cairo, Georgia, Milton Horne and his wife Karen of Liberty, Missouri, one sister in-law Valerie Steele and her husband Rob of Chesterfield, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home (4400 Bardstown road Louisville, Kentucky 40218)
Visitation will be from 11 AM until service time of 2 PM at the funeral home on Friday.
