Hunter Michael Dunaway was born May 26, 1999 and left this world on November 8, 2022 at the age of 23 in search of peace, or possibly another part of the multiverse. To say he “grew up” in Louisville may be inaccurate because Hunter was always a child at heart. He graduated in 2017 from Moore Traditional High School and was employed with USPS. He was working his way up in the organization, most recently being assigned to Business Development.
Hunter will be remembered for the joy he brought to everyone he encountered. He had an energy that was infectious and a child-like excitement to be envious of. His passions were varied and many and he could talk forever about them to anyone who would listen. He especially loved talking about the love of his life, his wife, Madison. Which sometimes caused her great concern as she never knew what secrets (wink wink) he may divulge.
The other great love of his life, we can’t say second greatest because Madison did not always know where she stood against this one, was all things dinosaurs. Since he was three years old, he could name all the dinosaurs and recite facts about each. He loved them to the extent that he had the Jurassic Park logo tattooed on his arm and incorporated dinosaurs into his wedding.
Hunter was one of the biggest music lovers you could ever meet. His taste in music was as unique as he was. His favorite genres were classic/hard rock and metal. However, when you listened to music with him you needed to be prepared for anything from The Bangles to Tool and everything in between. His favorite band, and sometimes the soundtrack to his life, was Avenged Sevenfold. He discovered them through a song on a video game soundtrack when he was young and it sparked his musical passion. He would often find a new (old) song that he loved and put it on repeat. Most recently, that was the 1981 Sheena Easton hit Morning Train (9 to 5). You can thank him for not being able to get that out of your head now.
In true childlike fashion, Hunter also loved dancing into a room, sneaky Nerf gun attacks, Star Wars, and Legos. He loved Marvel, especially Deadpool and The Punisher (which he also had tattooed). Wherever he is, you can be sure he is having intense conversations with Stan Lee about Spiderman. According to his dog, Violet, her dad also spent way too much time playing video games, but she was always happy to lay at his feet while he did.
Hunter loved a good cheeseburger, ribs cooked on the smoker, and playing cornhole. He loved playing board games and ALWAYS insisted on being Colonel Mustard in Clue. He loved DND, even though he didn’t play as much as he wanted (we hope all your rolls are natural 20s now). When he was not partaking in these many interests, he could be found primping in the mirror and telling everyone how good he looked. Oh, did I forget to mention how humble he was?
Most of all, Hunter loved his family, friends, and his “bois”. He will be deeply and eternally missed by those that survive him (just as soon as they are finished being angry with him) especially loving wife, Madison Amlung, parents Michael and Jackie Dunaway, parents-in-law Cletus and Melissa Amlung, sister Gabrielle Dunaway, half brother Jonathan Pulford, brother-in-law Logan Amlung, his canine “daughter” Violet, and the many caring relatives and friends that supported him throughout his life.
A memorial service for Hunter will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218.
Cremation will take place and his ashes will be distributed among his family. In true Hunter fashion, this will ensure that he remains the “hottest person in the room”.
Donations can be made in honor of Hunter to Camp Quality Kentuckiana, St. Joseph’s Children’s Home, or American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
