Hazel Bernice Hampton, 94, was called home to Heaven by her Lord and Savior on December 11, 2013. She graduated from Bowling Green Business College and worked as a secretary in the coal industry and in the legal field before quitting to raise her three daughters.
She was a faithful member of Walnut Street Baptist Church, serving in a variety of capacities including President of the Woman’s Missionary Union, serving on two pastor search committees, singing in the choir, singing in the Living Christmas Tree for over 20 years and working in the Youth Sunday School Department. She was also a volunteer at Baptist Hospital East.
She tenderly and lovingly cared for her beloved husband, Edward L. Hampton, until his death in 2008. She is survived by her sister, Edna Keeling, two brothers, Charles Scantland and Tom Scantland, her daughters, Deborah Stephens, Rebecca Nelson (David) and Pati Hoskins (Curtis), one granddaughter, Callie Nelson, and five grandsons, Mark Stephens, Jr. (Alex), Matthew Stephens (Rachel), Robert Stephens (Blayne), Colin Nelson (Nancy) and Corbin Nelson.
A celebration of Hazel’s life will be conducted 11am on Monday, December 16, 2013 at Walnut Street Baptist Church, 1101 S 3rd St, Louisville, KY 40203, (502) 589-5290 with interment to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm Sunday, December 15, 2013 at the church and after 10am the day of the service.
