

Born in the same city on September 18th, 1931, to the late John and Mary Thomas. Her life was a testament to the enduring power of kindness and generosity.
Elizabeth's life was one marked by devotion to family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Francis Englebert "Engle" French, and their son, Jerome French, as well as her siblings, Carolyn Maze, Margie Thomas, Joseph Thomas, and John Thomas. Her legacy continues through her children, Carolyn Bell (Ed), John French (Denise), and Rebecca French (John), along with her adored grandchildren, Michael Horn, Joseph Horn, and Krysten French.
She was a telephone operator at Bellsouth. Elizabeth's dedication was matched by her involvement at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, where she was a cherished member. Her vibrant spirit infused into every person she touched, bringing smiles and support to everyone she met.
Elizabeth's love for life was evident in her diverse interests. Her enthusiasm for the horses at Churchill Downs, Derby City revelry, playing Scrabble, and crafting with knitting and crocheting needles provided joy not only to herself but also to those around her. She was an avid supporter of U of L sports, rooting for her team with the same passion she bestowed upon her family.
Renowned for being the steadfast Matriarch of her family, Elizabeth enveloped her children and grandchildren with infinite love and showed them by example how to lead lives of purpose and heart. Whether offering wisdom, extending a helping hand, or sharing her time, she would do anything for her family.
Elizabeth will be remembered as the epitome of loving, generous, and wise. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to guide and inspire, her memory cherished as the embodiment of a life well and truly lived.
A visitation for Elizabeth will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218. A funeral service will occur Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Gabriel the Archangel, 5505 Bardstown Rd, Louisville, KY 40291 followed by a graveside service will occur Thursday, April 24, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Calvary Cemetery, 1600 Newburg Road, Louisville, KY 40205.
