Dennis Layne Greenwell

Dennis Layne Greenwell, age 61, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023. He was a 1980 graduate of Southern High School in Louisville KY. He was a 4-time Golden Glove Champion, and in 1976 he won the Outstanding Boxer award for Golden Gloves. He was recognized as the most experienced amatuer boxer in the state of Kentucky.

Dennis served as an intern at Walden Theatre for the Young Playwrights Series and stage manager on the production staff of Floyd County Theatre, as well as a cast member in many plays. He enjoyed doing stand-up comedy around Louisville and the surrounding states.

He was co-owner and coachman of the Cherokee Carriage Company, which offered rides through the Cherokee Triangle Neighborhood and Cave Hill Cemetery. He was a pressman at Deluxe and Ivy Hill Printing Companies, a machine operator at General Electric Co. Dennis diligently served as Teamster Union President Local GCC/IBT 619M. He was in Who's Who of American High School Students and a Kentucky Colonel. Mostly, he enjoyed strolling around his cherished Highlands Neighborhood.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Wade T. and LaVerne Pruitt Greenwell.

Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Sundea Murphy, Lynn (Greenwell) Jones (Marty), Tom Greenwell (Hellen Proti), Scott Greenwell, Jean Ehlers; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; great-great niece and nephew; many extended family and dear friends.

A Memorial Visitation for Dennis will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Arch L. Heady and Son Funeral Home, 8519 Preston Highway, Louisville, Kentucky 40219.
