Cheryl L. Smith, 74, of Louisville, KY, passed away peacefully on July 30th,2023 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. Cheryl was full of life and lit up every room she walked into. She never met a stranger. She was known for her kind heart and warm spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Cheryl was born on November 19th, 1948 and was a graduate of Fern Creek High School. She went on to hold various careers throughout her lifetime exhibiting the numerous talents she had. She was even a baton twirling instructor for a little while. She eventually retired from the Jefferson County Public School system, where her passion really shined. She loved being around the kids and being their shoulder to lean on. She was always there to make their days a little lighter.
Of all the things she did in life, her proudest accomplishment was her family. She met her husband Michael T. Smith when she was 14 years old and knew from that moment, she was going to marry him. They married June 16th, 1967. They had one beautiful daughter together (Karen) and one cherished granddaughter (Tiffany) along with many fur babies throughout the years. She always made sure that her girls had everything they ever wanted in life. From vacations to Gatlinburg and the beach every year to her beloved shopping trips. She would find any excuse she could to go shopping. She made sure that her family felt how much she loved them with everything she did. She was always there whenever anyone needed her. She was always great at providing laughs with jokes and stories and loved to dance.
She was preceded in death by her father Paul (Woody) Britt and younger brother Timmy Britt.
Left to cherish her memory and legacy are her husband, Michael T. Smith (of 56 years), Daughter, Karen (Bill) Gehm, Granddaughter, Tiffany (Andrew) Stanley, great-grandson, Davis Stanley, Fur Baby, Spencer, Sister In-laws, Diane Smith and Faye Smith, Sister, Judy (Nevitt) Johnston, as well as many nieces and nephews who adored her. Also survived by her “neighborhood family”, who may not be blood but will always be family.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday August 2, 2023 from 3PM-8PM at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Funeral Home 4400 Bardstown Road Louisville, Kentucky 40218. A funeral service will be held the following day on Thursday August 3, 2023 at 12PM in the funeral home chapel. A catered event will be held after the graveside service in the funeral home. Cheryl will be laid to rest in Resthaven Memorial Park.
