Bill was born on March 8, 1953 in Louisville, KY to Virginia and Thomas Simpson. He grew up in south Louisville and was a 1971 graduate of Doss High School. Bill chose to attend the University of Kentucky and graduated in 1975 with a Chemical Engineering degree and a lifelong passion for Big Blue sports. He later obtained his MBA from the University of Louisville. He began his engineering career at the BFGoodrich chemical plant in Louisville in 1975 where he met his wife, Alice. He continued his career in the industry for the next 40 years, retiring from Zeon Chemicals in 2015. Bill was a dedicated employee, and led many community outreach projects as a representative of Zeon.
Bill loved the outdoors and spent countless hours caring for his yard and large vegetable garden, followed by an afternoon drifting around the pool. His favorite evenings were spent sitting on the back porch, listening to music, surrounded by his family and beloved grand-dogs, Riley and Piper. Bill and Alice always found time to travel, enjoying many unforgettable beach vacations with extended family and trips throughout the U.S. and parts of Europe. There was never a beach visited left without a sand creation of Bill’s design or a sunset left unadmired.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Bill and Alice held UK season football and basketball tickets as devoted fans. Throughout the years he enjoyed coaching and watching his children’s teams, most recently becoming an avid supporter of his grandchildren’s sports endeavors.
Bill was anchored by the love of his family and faith in God. Longtime members of Northeast Christian Church, Bill served as a teacher, elder and devoted himself to many of the church’s service projects over the years.
Bill laughed often, loved fiercely and enriched the lives of those who knew him. He will be remembered lovingly as a husband, father, friend and the best GP ever. He is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and Thomas Simpson, his sister, Patricia Rakauskas and his nephew, George Manger. Bill is survived by his wife and best friend of 44 years, Alice Catherine Simpson; their daughter Anna Ackerman and her spouse Michael, their son Cody Simpson; and their grandchildren, Olivia and Logan Ackerman.
