Betty Royalty McCorkle was the embodiment of a life well lived, marked by dedication to her family, her work and her friends that brought joy to so many.
Betty, a graduate of Shawnee High School in 1958 was known for her spirited nature at a time where she pushed for her independence in every way she could. Following her education she worked as an office assistant/manager at a few businesses in Louisville, Kentucky. Quality Hotels, Musselman Brothers, KGA/PGA and then retiring after 24 years of service at Payne Electric Company.
Throughout her life, Betty was an avid reader. Although she didn’t travel that often she traveled in her books. You could find her most times, curled up with a book to get lost in an enchanting story in a far off place. Betty’s devotion to her family was clear. She possessed this unwavering grit. She did all she humanly could to provide for and protect them, predominantly as a single mother. Her sacrifices are unmatched. She navigated life’s journey with the utmost resilience and passed these traits onto her four children.
Betty’s presence was full of laughter and she always wanted to inject fun into the mix. Whether it be holidays, birthdays, graduations, UK Basketball games and the occasional conga line, she wanted the time to be joyful and spectacular.
Upon moving to Elizabethtown, she found a very special group of friends and loved every single minute of their visits. And lastly, she loved attending College Heights Methodist Church, sitting on the back row, soaking in all of the love and the faith-filled congregation.
Besides her parents, Gudgel Thomas & Lillie Mae Royalty; her husband, William Abner "Abby" McCorkle, precedes Betty in her passing.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Pam (Gary) Skees, Karen McCorkle - Colomb, Lisa (Kevin) Addington and Brian Todd (Angel) Grantz; 13 - grandchildren, Kayla, Abby, Erika, Emily, Brooke, Nikki, Shane, Marissa, Ethan, Lily, Lauren, Autumn and Ava; 9 - great - grandchildren, Addy, Leland, Kayden, London, Alex, Aubree, Liam, Oliver and Broly; a sister, Jean Glidewell; plus, a host of other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
