Joseph Rosner, our beloved husband, father, therapist, and friend, passed away on January 30, 2023. He was 100 years old.
Joseph was born in New York City on October 9, 1922 to Jacob and Masha, both immigrants from Poland. He attended The City College of New York, graduating early in 1942 to enlist during World War II. In the Army, he served as a Russian translator and combat infantryman, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. After returning home, he attended Columbia University for his Masters in Social Work before going on to earn a Ph.D. in psychology from NYU in 1954. While working as a social worker at the Wiltwyck School for Boys he met his future wife, Electra. In 1957, he, Electra, and their three young children moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as a psychologist in private practice for 64 years.
Joseph was an eternal optimist. He loved his work and helping his patients, and he loved the humanism inherent in Judaism, which his mother instilled in him from a young age. He believed in people and what they could achieve. He was a perennial problem-solver and never gave up in the face of adversity or failure.
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife Electra, his parents Masha and Jacob, his siblings Tillie and Martin, and his eldest child William, who sadly passed away unexpectedly last year. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his former wife Cathy, his children Karen, Linda, Mara, Elizabeth, and Jack, and his grandchildren Dashiell, Tess, Gabriel, Elliot, and Orly. A funeral service will be held on March 10, 2023 at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary, 1218 Glendon Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90024.
