Frances Claudia Barnard was born on March 12, 1937 to James Francis and Mary Theresa O'Hare in Medford, Massachusetts. She was the oldest of six children. Fran died on June 29, 2024 in Longview, Texas.
In 1955, Fran married Earnest Earl Barnard and moved to Longview, Texas. Even after 60 years, she never quite lost her Boston accent, which her grandchildren were quick to point out. She was a homemaker for many years, then after her two boys were grown, she went to work for Pine Tree ISD in the cafeteria. There, she enjoyed the students and became close friends with many of her co-workers. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Longview and enjoyed her Sunday School
class.
Her family was her joy. She especially treasured her time with her grandchildren. Hosting family gatherings during holidays was of great importance to her, even in later years when it became difficult. A lifelong baseball fan, Fran enjoyed following the Ranger’s with her sons. For many years, she loved getting together with close friends several times a week to play cards, games and drink coffee.
Fran was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest of 41 years, her parents and siblings, Jean Doherty, James O'Hare, Virginia Keene and Kay Parziale.
She is survived by her sister Maureen Mashoke and husband, Pat of Salem, New Hampshire. Also surviving Fran are her sons and daughters-in-law, Earl and Carol Barnard of Longview, Mark and Beth Barnard of Garland, Texas, grandchildren Crystal Ford and husband Winston of Melissa, Texas, and Kevin Barnard and wife Stephanie of Tyler. Great grandchildren are Hudson and Macie Barnard, and Hunter, Taylor and Skylar Ford. Fran also had numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to say thank you to the staff of Summer Meadows and Heartsway Hospice for their care.
There will be a private family gathering at a later date.
