Alice Lutitia Shelton

Alice L. Shelton, a beloved wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother stepped into eternity to be greeted by her Lord and Savior on January 27, 2023. She was born in Kilgore on February 5, 1949 to Samuel Asa Wood Jr. and Ina Lena Wood at the old Kilgore Hospital. Alice met Bob Shelton, the love of her life on a blind date while she was attending Kilgore College, and they were married on December 5, 1967.

After Bob returned from his second tour in Vietnam, the couple lived in the Kilgore area, where they both worked, prior to moving to White Oak in early 1976. In the years that followed, both were active in that community, with her husband serving on the police department and Alice being actively involved in several functions. Alice Shelton was a charter member of the White Oak Lioness Club, served in the ladies’ auxiliary pumper team of the White Oak Fire Department, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. During the same period of time, the couple had two daughters together, who both graduated from White Oak High School.

Alice served as office manager for Woolley Tool Company for approximately 20 years, prior to working in the same position for Parkway Health Club, and KeKoKa Fixtures for several following years. She was well known in the business community, and because of her pleasing personality, she acquired many friends and acquaintances during that time.

Alice and her husband were both active in church at Eastview Baptist in Kilgore and later in the First Assembly of God in Gladewater, with their daughters, and rarely missed a church service. They both taught various levels of Sunday School classes, with Bob also serving on the deacon board.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, who were family members of some of the early pioneers of Kilgore, and an older brother, Clinton Wood, who managed a highly successful company in Kilgore. She is survived by her husband Bob Shelton, her daughter Stormy Pendleton, her daughter Wendy Howard, and five grandchildren who names are Alison Pendleton and Brooke Pendleton of White Oak, Rainbow Simms, River Simms, and Amelia Howard of Virginia. Tosh Wood of Kilgore is a nephew.

Alice Shelton was a skilled bookkeeper, a quality seamstress, and an artist who once loved to draw and paint. She was also a loving and compassionate lady who seldom spoke a harsh word about anyone. During her later years, she suffered from several health problems and became homebound, where she thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her loved ones. The family will honor Alice in a private ceremony at a later date.
