Virginia was born in 1939 at Saint Vincent's Hospital in New York City. Her family soon moved to Navesink, and later Eatontown, New Jersey, where Virginia grew up. She started out a 1st grade hooky player, but matured into an artist, performer, and entertainer. Throughout her life, she brought joy to children, nursing home residents, and her greater community.
Virginia met her husband William Jr. at her alma mater, Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, after graduating from Longbranch High School in 1956. In 1960, Virginia and William Jr. embarked on their 62-year marriage. Together they raised their two children Jennifer and Bill, sending them both to college. They enjoyed traveling together, visiting Boston, the Adirondacks, Toronto, Quebec, and Montreal, as well as voyaging on two Windjammer cruises out of Penobscot Bay.
In 2007, the couple moved to Longmont, Colorado to be closer to family in their old age. They continued traveling near their new home, venturing to local festivals such as Frozen Dead Guy Days and the Chugwater Chili Cookoff. They always supported each other to pursue their passions; Virginia was enamored by all things creative and playful.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband William Henry Germer, Jr. in 2022, as well as her parents Helen and George Gordon, and brother George. She is survived by her brother Bob, sister Jeanne, children Jennifer Germer (husband Cris Baur) and William "Bill" Henry Germer III, and her beloved cat Looie Looie.
As family, friends, and community members remember her life, Virginia would remind them of the importance of being silly.
