In the early 1940s the family moved to Colorado where they settled in Yampa.
His growing up years were happily spent working on ranches in the Yampa Valley, hunting, fishing, and participating in rodeos as a bull rider. He was a true cowboy.
In the early 1950s he joined the U.S. Air Force where he spent tours of duty in Alaska, Chicago, French Morocco and Montana.
In 1956 in Chicago, he met and married Arlene Hulander. They were married for 67 years. He returned to Colorado in 1960 where he went to work at the National Bureau of Standards (now NIST) in Boulder and retired after 30 years. He later worked for Miniscribe and Maxtor as a contractor.
Ron was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, owning 17 bikes in his lifetime. He and Arlene took many motorcycle trips across the country on two wheels. He was the kind of man who could fix or repair anything, from cars and motorcycles, to nearly anything electronic or mechanical. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Eldon Hunter and his granddaughter, Jessica Marie Hunter. He is survived by his wife Arlene, his sons Tom Hunter (Lori), Bill Hunter (Shelly), grandson Josh Hunter (Danielle), granddaughter Jordan Costello, and four great grandsons: Trey Hunter, Rohne Hunter, Logan Costello and Blake Costello.
A celebration of life for Ronald will be held Friday, January 5, 2024 at 10:30 AM at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 803 3rd Avenue, Longmont, CO 80501. Following the celebration of life will be an inurnment committal at 1:00 PM at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery, 620 11th Avenue, Longmont, Colorado 80501. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Longmont Humane Society.
