Richard was born on February 2, 1936 in St. Louis, Missouri. He received his Bachelors in English from Drury College and his Masters in Theater from the University of Iowa. He began his teaching career in Brentwood, Missouri. In 1969 he moved to Marshalltown, Iowa to teach at Marshalltown Community College. During his time in Marshalltown, he directed many plays and owned Northlight Studio. In 1991, he moved to Trenton, Missouri to teach at North Central Missouri College. After teaching for over 50 years, he and his wife, Lori retired to Colorado in 2008. He lived an active life and enjoyed photography, swimming, hiking and camping.
He was preceded in death by: his parents Edward and Wuanita Wuertz, three brothers; Edward, Daniel and Jacke Wuertz, three sisters; Edna Klein, Marie Greer and Therese Pizella, and two grandsons; Matthew and Tate Wuertz.
He is survived by: his wife Lori Wuertz, three children; Kimberlee, Theodore and Matthew Wuertz, two granddaughters; Chloe Regal and Fiona Wuertz, and a sister Jean Holtz. He touched many lives and will be missed by his loving family and friends.
A private memorial will be held by the family.
Cremation is entrusted to Howe Mortuary & Crematory of Longmont, Colorado.
