Richard John Ranney, age 76, of Firestone,CO passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. He entered this earthly world on April 3, 1947. Born to his proud parents Jack William Ranney, and Betty Jane Haney at St. Josephs Hospital, Denver, CO. Richard was baptized on April 4, 1947 according to the Rite of the Roman Catholic Church, at the Holy Family Church, Denver, CO. He was soon nicknamed Dick by his parents and all who came to know and love him.
Dick married Delaine Faye Littleton on May 25, 2002 at their home in Lakewood and later moved to Firestone, CO. They enjoyed their married life together for 21 years by traveling. They especially loved the many Atlantic crossings to Europe; those days at sea were very relaxing. Their last 16 day cruise was in April 2023 with his brother Jerry and his wife Jane; sailing through the new Panama Canal Locks.
He grew up living in Wheat Ridge, attending 1st thru 8th grade at Saint Mary Magdalene of Denver. He and his brother Jerry had a paper route to earn their spending money. Dick used to say he spent part of his money, secretly, buying a piece of pie at the local drug store. His parents enjoyed the mountains and made it a point to go camping with the whole family. He loved remembering how much fun everyone had on these trips. He graduated from Regis Jesuit High School with a Latin Diploma in 1965, noted with having First Honors in 1963, 1964, and 1965. He furthered his education by enrolling at CSU in Fort Collins for approximately one year. Dick then went on to attend 2 years of classes at Colorado School of Mines, in Golden.
Dick was retired from CoorsTek on February 1, 2003 after being employed for 33 years and 8 months. He soon found employment with Anderman Ceramics out of Kidderminster, England covering the United States market and making quarterly trips to England, for the next 7 years.
He was an avid reader, and looked forward to the daily crossword puzzles in our local newspaper. For much of his life, Dick enjoyed bicycling and golf. However, COPD later prevented him from practicing these hobbies. His entire life he was fascinated by anything to do with trains, collecting miniatures, and taking rides on many of our trains here in Colorado. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Longmont, CO.
Dick was preceded in death by his father Jack in June 19, 2015 and his mother Betty in February 18, 2021, and the death of a sister, Patricia in infancy.
Surviving are his 2 sons Todd (Rosa) Ranney of Highlands Ranch, CO and Michael (Erica) Ranney of Myrtle Beach, SC, from his former marriage to Ann Myer. Stepdaughter Lisa (Eric) Kittelberger of Longmont, CO. Brothers Jerry (Jane) Ranney of Highland Ranch, CO and Tim (Heidi) Ranney of Philomath, OR.
