Phyllis Ann Hyde, 81, of Longmont passed away Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Longmont United Hospital.She was born May 22, 1933 in Princeton, Indiana to Vern Prentice and Bertha Lee (Atkinson) Whitten. She grew up in Evansville, IN where she attended Reitz High School, graduating in 1951.On June 24, 1956 Phyllis married Billy Dorris Hyde in Evansville.She had a long career in education that spanned over four decades. From 1951 to 1956, she was a secretary at Reitz High School. When Billy was transferred to Lexington, KY in 1964, she was the secretary at Tate's Creek Elementary. Arriving in Longmont in 1974, Phyllis was a teacher's aide at Longmont Estates Elementary and transitioned to a librarian/media specialist first at Northridge and later at Sanborn Elementary. Upon her retirement in 1998, she was honored with the naming of the media center at Sanborn the Phyllis Hyde Media Center.Phyllis was a member of LifeBridge Christian Church and P.E.O. Chapter M. She was a gifted storyteller and a volunteer at The Closet. She enjoyed river boat cruises and reading a good book.She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Billy on September 5, 2010.Phyllis is survived by two children Martha Cearley (Steve) of Denver and Mark Hyde of Minneapolis, MN, two grandchildren Ben and Cate Cearley and one brother David Whitten of Mt. Vernon, IN.Memorial services will be held 10:30am, Friday, April 10, 2015 at LifeBridge Christian Church. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory.
