Oh Chris, I can't even imagine how hard this is for you and I feel so helpless being so far away. I just hope they can bring Peter home soon. 
That's amazing that Pete's work has come through for his family so much, it's so nice to see the best coming out in people at times when it really counts. Poor Sara...it's certainly not going to be easy but at least she has a strong support system around her to help her and girls. I hope Jade doesn't bottle it up too much, it was clear just how much she adored her dad, and how much her adored her in return. And it must be so hard for Sara with Amber not understanding what's going on...I just can't even imagine. 
I know that he will certainly live on through all of you, continuing to live his passions as a family, he will always be right there with you. It is going to be bloody hard without him but I'm sure he'll be watching over you all, always.
I never wished so much to be there right now to just be with you all.

I am so very sorry about the loss of Peter. He will forever live in my memory as the kindest, most thoughtful, smart and handsome guy from school and a wonderful neighbor and friend. There is no doubt that he grew to be an amazing man, husband and father. My deepest sympathy is with you, Dave, Andy and Peter's wife and daughters. I wish you all could have had more time with him. Sending lots of love to you and your family. He is in heaven watching over you all.

Hi Christine, I wanted to talk to you at the Pete’s funeral however you were surrounded by good friends and felt that’s where you needed to be. Pete and I worked together for many years at AFT, he was the most incredible engineer I ever worked with and an incredible human being. The way he treated people the way he treated me is a testament to how You two raised him. I’m sure you heard of the story where he took a group of his coworkers to the mountains because he couldn’t believe they had not been there. A group of us went to a brewery one night and there was a drawing for a pair of backcountry skis of all the people there I want to be the oldest guy in the room. Anyway I’ve all of the necessary equipment and after Pete Dano ahead and use him yet took me out back country skiing with him I’m sure he was laughing inside as I was out of shape but he waited and we had a great day. Another time when he shared his love of the mountains with someone else. B. and I traveled quite often together on business trips when he was the medical engineer
And I was the medical salesman. His ability to communicate with customers, his calm personality made my job easy. I wanted to speak at the service if the opportunity arose, but in the end the service was perfect. Pete is the same age as my 2 sons and  I really felt protective of him. My heart is broken and I can’t imagine the pain you are feeling. Just know he was an exceptional young man call me the last time I was supposed to see Pete was a couple months ago we were all getting together for beers. At the last moment he sent a text saying something came up and he was staying home, “have to be a good dad”. He certainly was. Thank you for bringing Peter in the world.

Peter, our early memories of you are of a cheeky, happy kid, always looking for adventure and excitement.  You were smart, talented and eager for a challenge. We knew your achievements would be many and Chris and Dave regularly kept us up to date on your endeavours and life milestones.  The precious times spent together when you visited Australia were always happy and will be cherished. 
As the years went by we saw you grow into a wonderful husband to Sara and a patient, loving father to Jade and Amber.
We are so heartbroken at your sudden passing and regret that we did not get to spend more time with you. Peter, you will live on in our memories forever and you will never be forgotten.

Oh Peter, how much we miss you. It is almost a month since you left us but our heart shows no sign of healing. At first there was the numbness and disbelief of shock but that has changed to plain old grief and hurt.
We have so many beautiful memories and photos of you (yes you gave me a hard time about the number of photos I took but now I wish I had more) not only of you growing up, going camping and skiing as a child, and your many adventures and mishap's and beautiful photos and memories of you and Andy growing up and the love you shared. Then you met Sara, the next love of your life, you married and we gained an amazing Daughter in Law in a beautiful beachfront ceremony. 
This was followed by the 'We are expecting announcement' , and then a shocked call from you that the baby was a girl, not a boy as you expected. That beautiful little girl, Jade, who was quickly followed by her sister Amber, added a new dimension of pride and a new level of love to your life. How grateful I was that I was able to visit for a week each month and see your beautiful family grow and to take pictures that will forever be cherished. We also have wonderful memories of the vacations - both skiing and camping we had with you and which we will continue to experience with Sara, Jade and Amber. You and Sara showed the world to these girls and you constantly gave them new experiences to cherish. How you loved being a Dad, developing a special deep bond with both of your beautiful girls that we loved seeing .  
Your love of Family included us,   grandparents, and your brother Andrew,  Tanya and their beautiful girls Emma and Abigail who thought the sun shone out of Uncle Pete. How they loved it when you visited or they came here. They were  heartbroken when you left us. 
You were the most positive and kind person we have ever met.  You never hesitated to give everyone a big bear hug and you gave the best cuddles. I will forever cherish that last bear hug and kiss (X2).

Growing up on the other side of the world to my cousin made it harder to stay in touch than I'd like, but whenever we did get to spend time together he always had a lot of time for me, my sisters and my cousins. I remember when Liz and I headed over to the US in 2005 and we spent a few days in Colorado with Pete and Sara. We had an awesome time visiting the mountains and spending a day down at a nearby lake.

Reading all of these memories from all these different people really shows how many lives you touched and how great a guy you really were. 

We're all going to miss you Pete.

I met Pete in the fall of 1999 when he drove down from School of Mines in CO to visit Sara at NAU in Flagstaff, AZ for a long weekend.  By this point, I'd been friends with Sara for close to two years so one of those weekend evenings the three of us went downtown to the bars together.  At the end of the night we climbed back into Pete's little red Toyota pickup (had to fold myself in half to climb in thru the roll cage) to head back to campus.  I'd had a couple too many drinks and was talking incessantly while driving back.  We stopped at a red light along the way and I glanced over at Pete while I was rambling and he gave me this sideways look that said "dude...seriously, shut the hell up!"  He didn't actually say anything but he didn't have to; the look said it all.  I shut up for all of about five seconds then kept right on talking.  I have no idea what I was talking about and most of the night is fuzzy but I remember that look he gave me clear as day.
I'm thankful that Pete (against his better judgement) let me redeem myself.  Over the last nineteen years we and our families got to be close friends.  Between all the camping, hiking, rafting, 4-wheeling, skiing, welding, wrenching, building and barbecuing we spent a lot of time together.  I was looking forward to our retirement years living down the street from each other swapping stories, borrowing each other's tools and helping each other out with projects.  Pete's story ended way too soon.  He will be dearly missed.

I remember a trip to Disneyland with Peter. It was Drew’s birthday and the two of them and their quieter friend Charlie were in goofy mode. They even found fun in the decending Underground Mine Train line. I would pull Drew off the wall as Peter was climbing. Pull Pete off and repeat with Drew. All the while, peals of laughter all around. Can you say Rambunctious?
There were long summer afternoons of Marco Polo in our pool, Ninja, Friday night pool noodle battles at Wildwood Fort, a film making stage and the stilt races , won’t forget those. I can’t forget the joy of those days. And of course, Drew slaming in the front door, announcing to me, “Mom, Mom Pete stood up for me!” Forget that he showed the signs of having been thumped! (Drew tended to run afoul of a particularly tough little transplant from Brooklyn.) Years later, I watched Pete, the elegant and handsome groom take his beautiful Sara’s hand. Some time later it was Pete, good naturedly, filling the victim’s role in a diapering shower game. Peals of laughter all around.

Everyone that met you loved you man. It was easy to do so. You were my friend since Kindergarten and I will always remember you and cherish the times we had together. You taught me so much throughout life, I envied you and your ability to do anything. I will miss you. Love you Pete

To the family of Peter Marshall,
Although I don't know you personally, I share your story , your loss, and your grief deeply.  When my sister who lives in Denver alerted me to the avalanche story in Silverton, I was immediately taken back to my own sense of horror last April when my son, Tony Saracelli, was killed in an avalanche at Bridger Bowl in Bozeman, Montana.  He was, like Peter, a man of the mountains, who loved to share them and bring the inspiration of the outdoors and nature to others.  I hope over time you will find comfort in his memory, from those who knew and loved him and cared about him.  My heart goes out to you, there is, no explanation for the loss and no time table for the grief.  Grief is the price we pay for love and loss like this.

Steve and I live right across the street from Pete, Sara, Jade, Amber and Bella.  We were very sad we were not able to attend the service last week as we were out of town.   

We just spent the last hour reading the memorials and watching the slide show.   What a wonderful man!   What a busy man!   We saw how busy he was with his family, taking wonderful care of his home and yard, making his beer, and working so hard as president of our HOA and on many maintenance committees.    It’s amazing the many things he accomplished in his short life!   He truly lived life to the fullest!   We could see what a wonderful father and husband Pete was and we are  so sad that he’s not there with Sara, Jade and Amber now.    What memories he left you with, he will live forever in your hearts!   We will miss our energetic, soft spoken, friendly neighbor!   You are all in our prayers! 

What can we say about our son-in-law Peter Marshall.  Beloved husband to our daughter Sara.  Beloved father to our granddaughters Jade and Amber.  Beloved son to his parents Chris and Dave.  Beloved brother to Andy.  Beloved brother-in-law to our Stephanie, Brian and Michael and Heather.  
Peter’s memory will forever shine brightly in the goodness he inspired throughout his and our family.  He was a kind and gentle soul loved and respected by all who crossed his path.  Always with a smile on his face and a willingness to help others. 
 His creed of “family first” made him a proud member of our family.  He lived with a passion for life in all that he set out to achieve.  Whether building things for his family and friends, brewing beer or cooking with his smoker.  He saw life as an adventure.  He loved skiing, camping, hiking or any outdoor pursuits. 
Peter was always someone you could count on.  He was taken from us too soon.   He will truly be missed, but his legacy will live on in the family he left behind.  Rest easy Pete. May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you everlasting peace.


We were blessed to have met Peter while attending Peter Pan Preschool together. He was always friendly, energetic and had a great smile. Luckily, our moms were friends and we had many memories in our early years spending time with Peter and Andrew. We send our love and deepest sympathies to Sara and the girls, Chris, Dave, Andrew and all of the Marshall family. 

Relationships are defined by the series of shared moments you have with a person. My wife and Sara started their relationship about 17 years ago as co-workers. Through many shared moments it grew to a great friendship. Fortunately, those same shared moments allowed me the opportunity, pleasure, and honor to develop a friendship with Peter.

Those shared moments have enriched my life with a stockpile of fond memories. Skiing trips, camping trips, Halloween and Birthday parties, backyard parties, conversations, trying his latest brew or "smoker experiment", and just shared moments with family and friends.

After one of the first times I met Peter I thought, "This guy is way smarter than me. How am I going to have meaningful conversations with him at future events?". But that never seemed to be an issue. Peter was very approachable and inclusive. I enjoyed our conversations and all those shared moments that followed. I like to think the feeling was mutual since he kept inviting me back over to try his brews. Or maybe he just needed help finishing the keg to make room for the next brew.  

I respected Peter for his intelligence and his self confidence. But he was never afraid to talk to people and just be himself. And I admired him for that. 

When I was a boy I asked my mother "What do people do in heaven?" 
She replied: "Whatever they loved to do while here." 

It bings me some comfort to imagine that Pete is (among other things) exploring the best jeep trails, skiing some sweet powder, fishing and kayaking the finest rivers,  brewing (and drinking) the best beers known to man, making everyone else laugh, and just having a great time.

A good friend is hard to find. We are lucky to have found great friendship with the Marshalls. 

Peter Nicholas Marshall was a truly GREAT friend.

I first met Pete on a camping trip.  Although Stephanie I were only dating at the time, I believe it was her opportunity to get her family’s opinion of me. Pete, Sara, and the girls were so inviting and welcoming, even though I ate Amber’s chicken off her plate not knowing she wasn’t finished. On that trip, a little girl from a neighboring campsite fell off some rocks while I was nearby and after I delivered her to her parents, Pete talked to her father and later quoted her famous line, “why didn’t that man catch me?” Despite these things, Pete and Sara allowed me the opportunity to spend time with their family.

An attribute that stands out about Pete was his inviting nature. Pete enjoyed talking about whatever project he was working on. It was never to boast, but always seemed out of a heart to invite you into his passions. It never mattered who you were or what your interests were, Pete’s passions were contagious. He would eagerly and often show off his newest projects, whether it was something with the jeep, a new beer he was brewing, a beer he wanted you to try, new tools, new ski gear, building a shed, planning for “the shop”, one of his welding projects, the scrap book rack he built for Sara, the jungle gym he built for Amber, or the loft bed he built for Jade. In all these things, his passion for life and family were evident. When I was around Pete, it made me want to be a better man. He was one of a kind and absolutely irreplaceable. I never got to tell him the impact he’s had on my life, and for that I am truly sorry. 

I have known Pete since I was just a kid. When my sister first brought him home, he let me braid his hair and fill it with bows, so I knew she picked a winner right then and there. I got to attend his eagle scout ceremony, and I was there when he spoke to our dad about proposing (and I kept the secret!). He married my sister when I was 11, and was always an amazing brother-in-law. I got to spend even more time with their family once I moved out to Colorado for school, and Pete was always so willing to lend a hand when I needed it. I witnessed him grow into a wonderful father for Jade and Amber and fill  their lives with joy. He was so welcoming to my husband Brian since the day he came into my life, and we love to spend time together. Pete is one-of-a-kind and gave so much of himself to his family and friends. He will be sorely missed. 

My memories of Pete are of countless hours in the TOHS pool at diving and water polo—he made both so much fun. He met up with me again a few times when we were both in college in Colorado. He was a good friend and I’m so sad to hear this news. 

Just about everyone we hung out with called him, “Pete”, but since his name in class was announced Peter, I could never address him by any other name. We met in our first Metallurgy Class in 1999. He could tell by my participation in class that I was serious about my education and the class,  and assumed I was pretty sharp. When we had our first tough homework assignment, he ran into me in the Campus Library and asked for help on a question. It didn’t take me long to figure out that he was the sharp one!  He ended up helping me more than I helped him on that assignment, but it started both a two and a half-year study partnership and friendship while at School of Mines.  The summer of 2000 was the summer we spent the most time together. We drove around everywhere in that little red truck of his. He taught me to change oil and Peter talked about engines all time. For his birthday that year, I gave him a book on engines. We went kayaking with his mom in Clear Creek, attempted kayaking at the Royal Gorge. We had frequent barbeques at his Off Campus Mines apartment. And I have a permanent reminder of those barbeques on the side of my right knee (funny and interesting  story).   During Peter’s Senior year,  the metallurgy department had made a mistake on the degree program and everyone had to take a circuit lab to graduate. We both signed up for the same class and we were lab partners. We had a deal -  I would study the material and write up the questions/answers. He would build all the circuit boards in class and I would do the write ups. We got an A . Unfortunately, I lost contact with him until 2013 but was able to hang out with him San Francisco in 2014.  Just this August, I texted him this photo (I believe from his birthday in 2000 at Jose O'Shea's  in Colorado).  He really enjoyed seeing it.  Peter was my very best friend in college, my study partner, and like everyone, will always smile when  I remember him. 

We first knew Pete as “Coach” Marshall – the only parent brave enough to coach a Kindergarten/First Grade Odyssey of the Mind team. We were impressed, but it was only the tip of the iceberg. It turned out that Pete would impress us in many ways. His thoughtful, understated demeanor belied a true joy in life and sense of fun. That, combined with a remarkable and genuine kindness, made Pete a really special friend. Going off-roading or skiing or just grilling in the backyard with Pete was guaranteed to be a good time for all ages, and we have enjoyed every minute that we have spent with him and Sara and the girls. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family as we share in your loss.

Farewell Pete, my lovely grandson, we watched you grow  from  an infant into a very strong young man, a truly loving husband to Sara and just everything to Jade and Amber.  He was the complete Dad.  To our own family he was just one of us and will always be in our memories as a fun, clever and wonderful guy and one of the gang.  David, Chris and Andy would have been the most caring family to have wished for, and we mourn  with you for that fantastic young man Peter.  He will always stand tall and beautiful in our memories and although Brian and I cannot be there with you, we are in spirit.  This is one taken at David's birthday dinner, the turkey was  his success story, cooked on the new smoker.  Loving memories keep us strong. Brian and Margaret.

Peter, you were an amazing man who graced all those who crossed paths with you.  You made amazing memories for your daughters, wife, family, and all your friends. May peace be with you.     Love Mike, Heather, and Carvin       

I worked for Pete for 2 1/2 years. He would often say that his job as a manager was to help his employees succeed and grow. Pete taught me so much in my time working for him, and what he couldn't teach me, he empowered me with the tools to learn from other resources. His love for his work was contagious; very few people can make you feel enthusiastic about learning how to calibrate a micrometer, and even fewer people have the ability to understand, implement and teach statistical process control.

While Pete was passionate about his field, he also made sure people knew what was truly important to him; his home life. There were very few days in the years I worked with him that he did not mention his family. He was immensely proud of his daughters and his wife and it was easy to see that they meant the world to him. He was also not shy about expressing his joy in brewing beer and of course, skiing.

I am endlessly grateful to Pete for everything he did for me; my career path is largely due to his mentor-ship. I am also more sorry than words can say for his family's loss. Pete was an extraordinary person and he will be sincerely missed by all who knew him.

Pete was a person to look up to. One of those rare humans with raw enthusiasm and a brain full of deep, interesting thoughts. He was a leader who was loved and respected by friends; one of those rare people who seems to be made of the best qualities of each of their parents. Pete was also an inspiring skier who would push you to witness and share the sublime. We will miss all of these things about him. He lived a rich life full of love and adventure. 

Our special memory of Peter is form the time he visited us in Tasmania.
It is of a wonderful young teenager with great zest for life and a mischievous smile......flying down our road on rollerblades......at breakneck speed!
The wonderful teenager grew into a wonderful man who will be sorely missed!

I will always remember you for your humor and smile.  Always a  great guy making others laugh and see the joy. Love and hugs to you and yours.

Every Christmas I was excited to see you  because you would always play  with me and I had a little girl crush on you. ☺️ I’ll never forget how loving,sweet,and talented you were. I would like to give my thanks to Peter Marshall. I knew him somewhat, but the times that I did get to meet and talk with Peter Marshall, I had a lot of fun and enjoyment. He was always really calm, which is something that i admired about him greatly. He loved to socialize, and he knew a lot of stuff about chemistry, which is something that I also liked about him, as me and him were able to have some really fun conversations. He was a great man, and my condolences and respects are out to him and his great family. May he rest in peace and be remembered for the great man he was.

Pete was always kind. We played waterpolo together at Thousand Oaks High School for three years together. Rest In Peace. 

I worked with Peter at advanced forming technologies. Smart, brilliant and great person to work with. Out condolences to his family. May be rest in peace.

I did not know Peter personally, but saw him with his daughter at my school. I know from my partner, that Peter was a very dedicated and loving father. My very deepest condolences to Sara and family. I pray for you all daily. I know he is still watching over you all. 

Pumpkin pie, monoski, years of skiing in SLC over Christmas  week, loving and strong brother,  Eagle Scout ceremony, beautiful  wedding  at the beach in Malibu,   his wry smile, sweet wife and two beautiful  daughters . ...but Pete was so much more.  Many memories, all good.  May you all cherish YOUR memories of this amazing guy.

I feel like I knew Peter and Andrew from all the times your mom, Chris spoke about you both. The world loss a wonderful son, husband, father, brother and friend . Your family is full of so many exciting and beautiful memories, may they comfort all of you. Rest In Peace Peter.

Good friend - not that we did much together, but he was such a nice person I think everybody felt close to him.

Vince and I used to get together with Pete, Sara, young Jade and Amber, Chris and Dave for a few days during winter ski season. We had always heard a lot of great things about Pete and Sara. No wonder. When we met them we were instantly at ease. They had Jade and Amber on the slopes - seemingly as soon as they could stand. We enjoyed many meals together including one evening in Mt. Crested Butte when we had to walk around for an hour or more to find a place to eat. Pete and Dave carried one girl each on their shoulders. In spite of the delay everyone was happy and the girls so patient. A testimony to the great family Pete and Sara were building.  One of the commenters said he was impressed with Pete’s resume before he was hired. Brought back memories of helping Pete write his resume at some stage in his career. Easy to do for such a talented man. 

Met and chat with Peter only once back in 2009 ... but his image as a quiet, confident, and witty person has ever since been indented in my memory.  A wonderful person and may him peace in heaven.

I knew Peter through our HOA Board. As a resident of the MVF community, I want to express my deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. May you all find comfort in your love and memories.

I watched Peter grow up from a very young boy into a wonderful man. He was always kind with a beautiful soul. I have fond memories of him with my children - all growing up together. I hope that your family will find comfort in their memories of you. Rest in peace good man.

I think it was about 20 years ago when I first met Peter  when he was then dating my close friend Sara. I thought wow this guy is great and I really like him. He was a great change from the boys I've met in the past :) As someone else has said also quite handsome  :) 

Pete loved Sara with all his hear from the beginning. I attended their wedding years later and witnessed their unbreakable bond and love for each other again. Since then we have both moved to other states but kept in touch thru Facebook. I love seeing their pictures, their outings and their girls. Pete was a great guy. I am so heartbroken for Sara and her family. He will be missed but always remembered. 

I first met Peter when he and Sara were getting married – at a family function before their wedding and again at the wedding. I thought “wow – he is a nice, good looking guy!” and was glad my friend Helga, Sara’s mom, would have a great son-in-law. Peter was a wonderful husband and father, and led a busy dynamic life with his family. As their daughters were born and the family grew, I’d hear about this wonderful family and see pictures, spending time together, playing on equipment in the backyard and spending time in the outdoors. What a wonderful team Peter and Sara made. I last saw Peter at a wedding when Sara’s younger sister was married. Peter and Sara’s older daughter was grown up enough to participate in the wedding, but their younger daughter was not old enough to join her sister and stand up for their aunt’s wedding. Peter, a super dad, kept his daughter busy all day, through the wedding and the reception so she had a great day too. In Peter, I saw a man who knew who he was and knew what was important, whose love for his family and life made my heart sing. He was a joy to be near. I am so sad and extend my sympathy to his entire family. I am unable to attend his memorial service. 

Pete was my replacement when I retired from Specialty Products Company after 18 years as Quality Services manager at the end of 2015.  When I was shown his resume prior to his hiring I thought, Wow this guy is super qualified for this job.  We overlapped for 3 months before I left but that amount of time was hardly necessary; he was up to speed in no time.  He did call me a few times with questions after I left, but after that we did not keep in touch.   This must be such a great loss for the company and for anyone who was close to him.   I am so sorry that I will not be able to attend the memorial service and express my condolences and respect for Pete to his family.

Pete was a great guy, lived life to the fullest, always fun to share beer making tips, off-roading, travel adventures, etc. We will miss his sense of humor, fun smile, and willingness to lend a hand and help out.
