Patrick McCarthy passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, with his wife and children by his side. Born on March 12, 1953, Patrick grew up and attended school in New Jersey. As a teenager he had a major car accident and was in a coma and then on crutches for several months.
He met his first wife, Carol, and together they left New Jersey and moved to Colorado, arriving with 13 cents to their names. Once there, they wrote down their goals and soon started to accomplish them. Patrick met and started to work for a man named Harry who encouraged Patrick to purchase a dump truck and to start his own business, which he did in 1976 and named it Colorado Hauling.
During his first few years in Colorado, Patrick and Carol welcomed three children, Patrick Jr., followed by Jennifer and then Margaret. They moved to Nederland and resided in the home that Pat built out of love, sweat and tears. In 1977, Patrick and Carol divorced.
Patrick, a former drummer, was also a poet, song writer, and musician, as he played guitar solo as well as in a duo with his friend, Craig. His love of music and the guitar was passed on to his grandgirls. He booked musicians at the Bank Saloon where he met his future wife, Marianne. They bought a mobile home together which Pat renovated with recycled wood from his “day” job. Patrick and Marianne married in 1990 and they decided to move to the east side of Longmont, in old town. Once there, Pat renovated this home and turned it from a duplex into a single residence. Shortly after, Patrick bought his dream home which he renovated as well. Eventually, they decided they wanted to move to the west side of Longmont where they purchased their final home. He was very proud of this home and updated it to his liking.
During his career, his company changed direction from hauling to demolition. Hence the name, Colorado Demolition and further changed to Colorado Demolition and Deconstruction. He enjoyed demolishing buildings as well as recycling and donating as much of the material that he was able to save as he truly cared for the environment. Pat had a strong work ethic which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. In 2018, Patrick decided to retire and sold his business to his son-in-law. He and Marianne then took time to travel and explore the beauty of nature he loved so much. He truly loved traveling to Utah, Arizona, California and so many other places. They travelled to Pacific Northwest and down to Mexico, as well as to the Atlantic and the Gulf. However, in 2019, their traveling was cut short due to being diagnosed with multiple health concerns.
Patrick was a funny man, witty and known for his “dad jokes”. He loved golf and Impala cars and enjoyed cruising main street in his Impala.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Marianne; his son Patrick McCarthy, Jr. (Mindy), his daughters, Jennifer Boyd (Jeff) and Margaret Stone (Jason), his stepchildren Lisa Barry (Eric) and Jason Bennett (Erin) as well as nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Robert McCarthy (Kathy) and his nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his first wife, Carol Belcas.
In his memory and lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Longmont Humane Society, 9595 Nelson Road, Longmont, CO 80501.
