November 19, 1937 – December 2, 2024
Miguel Medina of Longmont, Colorado passed away on December 2, 2024 in Loveland, Colorado surrounded by his loving family. Miguel was born November 19, 1937 in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico to Basalisa Infante Capeles and Raimundo Medina. He was blessed with 9 brothers and 7 sisters.
Miguel moved from Puerto Rico to the United States (Cleveland, Ohio) when he was 16 years old and started working right away. He was a very hard worker from the start which is why he was so successful later in life. Miguel later moved to Chicago, Illinois with his children. There he worked many jobs to provide for his family who were always his number one priority. Miguel then met his future wife and the love of his life Elena, while working at a game show. They decided they wanted a change and Miguel's job brought them to Colorado. They settled in Longmont, Colorado in July of 1974. Miguel and Elena were married on February 27, 1985.
The decision to move to Longmont turned out to be the best for all as Miguel became the first Latino business owner in Longmont. He and Elena owned and operated Casa Medina, a Spanish gift shop that was very successful. Miguel’s knack for business along with his charisma - you were only a stranger once! - contributed to the success of Casa Medina. Miguel had a sharp eye for business. Some say he could sell snow to an Eskimo and could rub two pennies together to make a nickel! He worked long hours to ensure his family was well taken care of and he gave them the best life he could. He was always available to his siblings, making sure they had what they needed and extended his generosity to others in the community as well. Our Dad (Papa) was kind and always willing to help someone in need. He was funny, silly and always charming. Mom certainly had her hands full with him. But Dad was always gracious and endearing.
Miguel stayed busy with other ventures being the founder of the Latino Chamber of Commerce in Longmont, member of the Multicultural Action Committee and the Senior Center's Board of Directors. Dad loved baseball! In fact, he used to interpret for some of the players of the Zephyrs and Rockies! The Colorado Rockies were his favorite team to watch and support!
Miguel is preceded in death by his wife, Elena; sons Miguel and Victor; 4 brothers; and 1 sister. He is survived by his sons Jose L., Mario, Danny, Edwin and Jose M.; daughters Rosa, Anna, Gloria and Marisol; 5 brothers; 6 sisters; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Miguel will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
A Celebration of Life for Miguel will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024 at Howe Mortuary & Crematory located at 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado. A reception will follow the service.
In honor of his love for the Colorado Rockies guests are invited to wear your Rockies gear or purple and white to the services.
