Mary Jean Schlueter

Mary Jean (Kemp) Schlueter was born on October 12, 1944, in Milwaukee, WI to James Edward Kemp and Breta Mary (Larson) Kemp. She passed away on October 14, 2024 at the age of 80 surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with cancer.

Mary Jean was one of two children born to James and Breta. Growing up, the Kemp family moved often as the daughter of an Air Force officer. Mary Jean graduated from Texas A&M - Commerce with a degree in Psychology. Her roots were in the Midwest where she married her husband Don M. Schlueter on September 30, 1977 in St. Louis, MO. Together they raised their children Douglas and Lindsay.

Mary Jean and her family moved throughout the United States and even Scotland, eventually settling in LaGrange, IL for 20 years. In May 2022, Mary Jean and Don moved to Thornton, CO to be closer to their daughter Lindsay and her family.

Throughout her life Mary Jean was a devoted mother and wife while volunteering with several service leagues. She had a successful and varied career and found her professional calling with helping people and spent the majority of her career in Human Resources before retiring in July 2013. Besides her career, she loved traveling, putting her interior design skills to use in making each home feel warm and welcoming. She loved her oil painting and doing crafts, and especially sharing her creativity with her daughter and granddaughters.

Mary Jean is survived by her husband of 47 years, Don Milton Schlueter of Thornton, CO; her brother Jim Kemp of San Clemente, CA; her daughter Lindsay C. (Schlueter) Luth and her husband John and daughter Lauren L. Luth of Louisville, CO; her son Douglas P. Schlueter and his wife Kristin Sowell and daughters Grace L. Schlueter, Madison A. Schlueter of Overland Park, KS. She is preceded in death by her parents James and Breta Kemp. A small family celebration of life will be held in the future.
