Marilyn Kay Flores

She was born to Alex and Helen Martin on August 18, 1943, in Cortez, Colorado. She was raised in a one-room house on a farm with her four siblings. The family worked very hard to grow wheat and pinto beans.

She graduated from Montezuma High School and attended many different trade schools. In her working years, she started her career in the flower business and, most recently, as an apartment complex manager.

In 1963, Marilyn moved to the Longmont area. She is remembered as a loving parent and took great pride in being involved in her children’s activities. She remained close to her siblings and had many crafting buddies. She was very hard working, a generous and kind soul who gave tirelessly to the less fortunate and received them into her home with open arms.

Marilyn loved caring for her garden, took on many crafting projects, and valued spending time with her beloved dog, Beatty, and her cat, Obione Kanobi.

She was raised in a Baptist church and later loved being a Christian.

Although she is dearly missed by all those who came to know and love Marilyn, she is in a much better place and is finally at peace. She fought a courageous battle with dementia towards her final years, but she never gave up.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Helen Martin; her most recent husband, Alfred; her son, Roger Buchanan; her brother Kenny and sister-in-law, Susan Martin; and her sister, Micky, and brother-in-law, Billy Baker.

She is survived by her loving children, Terri (Steve) Boettcher, Marty Buchanan, Casey Flores, and sister Pam (Carl) Thompson and sister Marge (Ted) Duncan, and her grandchildren Brandon (Sabrina) Buchanan, Christian (Katie) Boettcher, Nicholas Raymond, Abigail and Catelyn Buchanan and Jessica Buchanan. She is further survived by her numerous great-grandchildren and her two pets.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Marilyn’s honor are encouraged to a dementia organization of your choosing.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Howe Mortuary & Crematory of Longmont. A reception will follow the service.
