Joyce Marie Buringa

Joyce was born August 9th, 1935 in Waseca, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Mabel Seewald. She was raised on her family farm just west of Waseca. She went to Waseca High School graduating in 1953 with honors. Upon graduation she became a legal secretary for two law firms. After a marriage that produced four boys she married Rick Buringa in October of 1967. A fifth son was born in 1971. The family lived in Owatonna Minnesota until 1972 at which time they moved to Longmont, Colorado.

Joyce was a fantastic wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all. She had an endearing sense of humor and a smile for everyone. Joyce had a gift of making everyone feel special. One of her favorite past times was attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, football, baseball, swimming, hockey, horse shows and team ropings. Her family was her life.

Joyce belonged to Messiah Lutheran Church and the Longmont New Comers Club and from these associations developed lifelong friendships with many people in the Longmont area. Joyce enjoyed playing bridge with her friends but cards were rarely played as they ended up having more of a social gathering and far too much fun. Joyce delighted in entertaining friends. She was a great listener and with five boys, she did a lot of it. Never judgmental but rather calm and graceful. Joyce continued her career as a secretary at the Cross Gold Mine Mill in Boulder for 10 years then went to work for the City Clerks office in Longmont where she retired in 2001.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Walter and Mabel Seewald and her brother Willard Seewald. She is survived by her husband Rick, sons Brian, Brad, Craig (Beth), Blake (Robin), and John. Grandkids Clayton (Jennifer), Kelley (Jason), Molly, Clint, Halsey, Derrick, Brandon, Great Grandsons Cameron and Travis, Sister in law Fern Seewald and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family would like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses, and all the staff at Adara Living in Broomfield for their amazing care as well as all the Hospice Doctors, Nurses and staff. Joyce was entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel for her cremation.

A celebration of life will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church in Longmont on Wednesday August 9th at 10:30am.
