Joseph Dan McGrew

Dan McGrew of Longmont passed way Saturday, January 28, 2017 at AltaVita Memory Care Centre at the age of 82. He was born on February 21, 1934 in Greeley, CO to LaVern and Edna McGrew. He graduated from Boulder High School in 1952. He served in the Army from 1956 to1958 and the Army Reserve until 1962. He married Carolyn Sue Cook on November 1st, 1958. They moved from Boulder to Longmont in 1963. He enjoyed camping with the family, trips to Branson, MO and playing cards with friends. He also was an avid golfer, bowler, and enjoyed doing cross word puzzles. Dan retired from Rocky Flats in 1992. After he retired he enjoyed spending time watching his grandkids playing sports. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother Delmar McGrew. He is survived by two sons, Dennis McGrew of Estes Park, CO and Robert (Jenny) McGrew of Michigan City, IN; two daughters, Sharon (Tim) Newman and Melinda (Jim) Richards of Longmont, CO; brother, Donald (Bonnie) McGrew, sister Dorothy (Dean) Mundt and sister in-law Jean McGrew; 10 grandchildren Joshua and Justin Mathews, Danielle Newman, Jessica, Jordan, Kyle and Sophia McGrew, Kevin McGrew, Mellisa (Bryson) Varner, Deanna (AJay) Amador and 3 great grandchildren, Cyprian, Sumer, and Jeremiah; two step great grandchildren, Alex and Josh.A celebration of Dan McGrew's life will be held from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 4th at his daughter's house located at 2948 Sand Dollar Court in Longmont. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.The family would like to thank the caregivers at AltaVita and Suncrest Hospice for the outstanding care of our father.
